PDP questions APC: 'Tell us why you don't want Jega sacked'

The Peoples Democratic Party has challenged the All Progressives Congress to come out clear and explain to Nigerians the links between it and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, which informs and propels its interest in his stay in office.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, said it was more than curious that the APC has continued to fabricate stories and show undue interest in Jega, adding that such raise a lot of questions for the opposition and the INEC Chairman.

He said, “Undoubtedly, the frenzy, hysteria and spate with which the APC has been inventing stories regarding Prof. Jega’s stay in office, even when nothing suggests that such was on the table, raise a lot of issues.

“We ask, is there any underlining issue or arrangement between APC and Prof. Jega which the opposition is hell-bent to protect, informing its anxiety and apprehension towards his stay in office?

“While it is noted that the APC is a party of one week, one lie, we in the PDP look beneath the surfaces to the deeper issues propelling the lies.

“We therefore challenge the APC to come out clean and tell Nigerians the real reason behind their false alarms and uncontrolled nervousness regarding Prof. Jega ahead of the 2015 general elections.

“Finally, we wish to remind the leadership of INEC that Nigerians are monitoring its activities and series of unfolding political events ahead of the elections, and will not accept anything less than the conduct of credible, free and fair general elections come March 28 and April 11, 2015.”

  1. I think APC knows that Jega is a man of integrity. Without his integrity, Jonathan wouldn't have been Nigerian president. The APC might be smelling rat in PDP clamor for Jega sack.

    1. Jega was a man of integrity in 2011 but lost his integrity. If Jega is a man of integrity why did he think of increasing the numbers of polling unit in the north? Do not tell me they canceled it. An INEC chairman with a clear mind should not mention it. Simply Social study or Civic tells you that a region at war will have less population, where did he generate the figures from.FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOTE THAT SOME NON NIGERIAN FROM NIGER, CHAD HAVE BEING GIVEN PVC TO VOTE. They should be filtered out. Mr. Jega claimed that INEC is ready for election where most people have not being given PVC. For instance my own mother went to collect PVC recently but was told that they do not know why her own PVC have not being produced. JEGA have decided to deny some people their right to vote. All PVC should be produced, if the owners did not pick it up that would be a different thing. But since INEC is denying Nigerians their right to vote by producing the Voter's Card, then INEC is not ready for elections

  6. Jega is the best man for the job, the rantings of APC & PDP notwithstanding.

  7. The question should be the other way round: why does PDP want Jega who was recommended and appointed by the PDP-dominated Senate sacked? Simple answer: they have discovered that with Jega at the helm of INEC affairs, it will be difficult for them to rig the elections.

  9. Fellow Patrotic and Sincere Nigerians, it appears to me that PDP is now like a Party already out of power.

This PDP rhetoric nowadays sounds more like that of an opposition party rather than the party actually governing the Country.

PDP members are VIP "Vagabounds in Power", all avenues to rig forth coming elections are being blocked one after the other. Even the pressure from the International Community can no longer be ignored by them.

Let us all never relent in our efforts. Let us all continue to be vigilant and at same time, let us all continue to pray.

God must never allow this PDP reproach to Nigeria to continue. There must be a change in Nigeria. We must be a people that should be able to raise their heads high anywhere in the world. God must deliver Nigeria from these set of pathological liars and shashasha people.

    God bless Nigeria.

  10. Nice power! Why does APC want Jega to conduct the election at all cost even when he is by public service rule is supposed to go on pre retirement leave? Does it mean that without Jega no other person can do the job? Why this so much interest by APC in Jega. APC actions and language is not doing Jega's integrity any good at all.Shi kena!

  11. We support Jega's stay in office because. He proposed the use of card reader while PDP wants to oust him from office because they don't want card reader. Any attempt to remove Jega from office now will lead to serious conflagration. We have tolerated the extension of elections, if the reasons behind the extension to look for a way in removing Jega from office, then that attempt will be scuttled with every means legally possible.

  15. Jega is obviously not playing the pdpigs game. Even if they succeed in sacking jega, pdpigs will still loose the election due to sympathy votes. Pdpigs is against pvc and card reader because rigging is their stock in trade.
