PDP bribed Nigerian pastors with N6 Billion to campaign against Buhari – Amaechi

The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party bribed some Christian religious leaders with N6bn to campaign against the All Progressives Congress and its presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Amaechi said that the religious leaders had been circulating documents to convince Nigerians that the APC and Buhari would islamise Nigeria if voted into power on February 14.

He told a crowd at the state APC governorship rally in Emohua that the PDP ought to know that Nigerians were too enlightened for any political party or an individual to make the country a Muslim nation.

The governor, who is also the Director-General of Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation, therefore advised the religious leaders, whom he accused of commercialising the Christian faith, to return the bribe money to the Federal Government.

He said, “Some pastors collected N6bn and they are circulating document and telling you not to vote for an Hausa man; not to vote for a Muslim; that they want to Islamise Nigeria. Tell them to return our N6bn.

“They gave them N6bn; they should return it to the Federal Government coffers. They will tell you that Buhari wants to Islamise Nigeria; tell them we are too educated.

“I am a Catholic, but no Catholic priest has told me that story right now in the Catholic Church because, I will ask him how. If any pastor tells you that, tell him to return the money.

“Nobody can Islamise Nigeria; they have commercialised Jesus Christ. They should stop commercialising the Christian faith. You know what Jesus Christ did in the temple? He chased them away.

“We shall chase away those pastors who have collected money from the PDP to tell us lies. We shall chase them away on behalf of Christ.”

The governor described the election in the state as a referendum between him and President Goodluck Jonathan, whom he challenged to show Rivers people what he had done for them.

“I told the President that the election in Rivers State is a referendum between him and myself. I told him anywhere I go, I will show what I have done. Let him show what he has done,” Amaechi stressed.

The national leadership of the PDP described the allegation by Amaechi as a “crime against God.”

“It is also a crime to the Church and Christianity. It is an insult on Christianity. To say that pastors are paid to support the President is height of recklessness. Such allegation is despicable and should be condemned. There was nothing like that from us as a party and there was nothing like that from our candidate,” its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, added.

Reacting, the state Assistant Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Nwanosike, challenged Amaechi, to name the pastors that collected the N6bn.

Nwanosike argued that the allegation was an indication that the governor had conceded defeat to Jonathan.

He said, “It shows clearly that Governor Amaechi has conceded defeat and that Dr. Jonathan has what it takes to continue as the President of this country.”

In his remark at the rally, the APC governorship candidate in the state, Dakuku Peterside, said that if voted into power on February 28, he would complete all projects embarked upon by the Amaechi government.

The candidate also promised to combat insecurity in the communities.

  14. Hmmm! God sees everything and knows everything. I have never heard any Pastor from The Apostolic Church canvassing not to vote for Buhari or vote for Jonathan, so i dont know where the info of bribery emanated from, that i wont hear from my Dad.
I dont think Rotimi Amaechi should go this far because of personal gain or selfish interest, little did he know that many Pastors are supporting APC because of Prof Osibanjo including my Dad but i hope they will see to have a rethink through Rotimi Amaechi' s report.

  20. Amaechi, if you are educated what of BUHARI your presidential candidate? Tell him to go and clear himself first. Nigerians are two educated to vote in a drop-out as a president Please note that as at now, APC has no presidential candidate as Buhari must be disqualified for perjury.

  21. Ameachi is anti-christ, cos he is a cultist. heading to disintergrate Nigeria. Now I Can see that Nigeria is at the verge of break up cos some people donot believe in co-existence. But can this be true, if not true why should we have a traitor like the then JUDAS ISCARIOTE in our mist. May be his plan is to run back to Ghana to enjoy Rivers state accumulated wealth which i believe he will be repatrated on container like the OMARO DIKO this time.

  22. Stop using abusive words on other people... It actually shows lack of respect and intelligence on ur part ... try to be as neutral as possible... i don't really know about the origin of these stories but sincerely, it is retarded to campaign against a party claiming that the candidate will Islamize Nigeria ... He dint do that when he had the ultimate power as a Head of State. How can he do it now when he has to go thru the Legislators! ... Nigerians are not dumb!

    2. You are one of the very few making sensible comments on this platform, most of those raining abuses on this same Amaechi who made this revelation (which may be true even without the evidence) should be asked where they were in the last 6 years. Amaechi was locked out of govt house where he should be presiding, to mention just one of his predicaments and those of other prominent Nigerians in the hand of these 'clueless' managers of our economy, but some still believe that we should stake our future for another four years, just for the sake of unfounded sentiments (its common to hear comments like 'na my town man, e go enter' from some tree orchins these days). However, the people whose attitude pains me most are the likes of the so called pastors in this issue, we all are Nigerians and we know what faithfuls suffer in the hands of these people (let me reiterate that we still have those who are doing their best to live up to their calling and their fruits speaks for them). Consider our professionals who should be looked up to in the class of the intellectuals, most of them have traded their integrity for material gains, the case of the 'madam' claiming she does not want to join issues with Soludo the former CBN governor all because she cant find a way to defend her dishonorable performance as 'CME' is an example. The state of this country is appalling.
I just like to commend your objective comment and as for those who are simply posting comments based on sentiment, I think you need to have a rethink of what your future and those of your kids is intended to look like in this 'transformed' country which to most discerning mind has been on something worse than reverse gear for some time now.

In the end, our choice matters a lot, though we may still be grappling with making our votes count (when we do vote) but I think its time for most Nigerians to be mentally emancipated as a prerequisite to making the right choice especially for long term dividend.

Wether PDP bribes or not,it is now too late to vote out GMB.GMB is going to be our next president.Afterall, oga Jona had said he was going to be a one term president and that if he could not fix Nigerian problem within 4(FOUR) years then if he stays in power for 100 years he would not be able to fix it. and God has stamped it with his performance.Nigerians ,pls vote wisely for our generations yet unborn.

  33. Many of the APC leaders were just recently PDP members who were asked by the PDP leadership to give younger leaders a chance but they refused and fled to APC.

Many of them have been two-term governors and multiple-tenure senators yet they want to be in office for life.

Now tell me, who believes in change. APC or PDP?
