In the ongoing political power tussle between two notable political parties in Nigeria, no fewer than 5,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kogi State defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the weekend.
Addressing a large crowd at the zonal rally of the APC at Anyigba, in the eastern senatorial district of the State where the defecting PDP members were received, former governor of the State, Prince Abubakar Audu, asserted that General Muhammadu Buhari, was a “President-elect” waiting to be sworn in on May 29, this year.
PDP bigwigs who led their supporters into defecting to the APC include: Air Vice Marshal Saliu Atawodi, former accountant general of the state, Elder Ubolo Okpanachi, former state chairman of PDP, Barrister Dangana Ocheja, Senator Nicholas Ugbane, Samson Ihiabe and former executive chairman of local government service commission, Malam Sani Ogu among others.
The former governor maintained that the APC has an overwhelming support of Nigerians to lead the country in the next dispensation, describing the shift in date of the poll as a postponement of “evil day” for the ruling PDP.
Wondering why a government that claims to have delivered on its campaign promises would be afraid of election, Audu alleged that the ruling PDP took the decision seeing that defeat was staring them in the face. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
