Jonathan pays surprise visit to troops in Adamawa

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday paid surprise visit to troops in Adamawa, who have been battling the Boko Haram insurgents.

The President reportedly landed at the Yola International Airport at about 11:00am and boarded a helicopter and went off into the hinterland.

Those on the President’s entourage included the service chiefs, the State Governor, James Ngilari, and the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

It was gathered that the President and his entourage landed at the 115 battalion Army barracks in Mubi before they were driven to pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isah Ahmadu.

After private talks with the Emir, the President and the Service Chief visited the home village of the Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh and later flew back to Yola on their way to Abuja.

Adamawa is one of the states in the northeast affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Some of the local government areas in the state recaptured from Boko Haram are – Maiha, Mubi South, Mubi North, Hong Gombi and Michika while soldiers are battling to reclaim Madagali.

The President’s visit is therefore seen as a morale booster for the soldiers.

He had also recently paid similar visit to troops in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
