Igbo youths warn Obasanjo - 'Stop your anti-Jonathan comments, or else...'

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo , has warned ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo over his reported remarks on President Goodluck Jonathan.

Media reports had quoted Obasanjo as saying that Jonathan shifted the election dates because he was afraid of defeat and that perhaps the President had been listening to aides telling him that he stands the risk of being jailed for corruption should the opposition All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) wins the poll.

The former President also alleged that Jonathan was engaging in “the do-or-die” politics played by the former President of Cote d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo.

But the Ohanaeze Youth Council warned Obasanjo to stop inciting Nigerians against the President, who, according to the group, “has dwarfed the achievements of all former Nigerian leaders.”

Speaking with our correspondent in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, the National President of OYC, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said “Obasanjo should stop fanning the embers of war through his unguarded utterances against a sitting President.”

Isiguzoro accused Obasanjo of plotting, in connivance with some undemocratic elements, to topple Jonathan’s government through inciting comments, warning that any attempt to derail Nigeria’s democracy would be resisted.

“Obasanjo is a disappointment to democracy. He should not plunge Nigeria into another civil war through his hate remarks against Jonathan,” he said.

Isiguzoro said Jonathan had “by all standards proved to be a core democrat, otherwise the likes of Obasanjo should be cooling his feet in the jail by now because of his evil deeds while in office.”

The OYC leader said corruption was institutionalised during Obasanjo’s administration and wondered when the former President overnight turned into the vanguard of democracy.

He said, “Obasanjo should know that he has expired politically and Nigerian youths cannot allow him and other spent forces that belong to the past to ruin our future.

“Nigeria cannot buy his belated and selfish idea of Interim National Government, and all those plotting to put Nigeria backwards will be disappointed because the youths are now wiser.”

Isiguzoro further argued that “if anyone should be afraid of going to jail because of corruption and illegality, it is Obasanjo who superintended over the destruction of Odi town while he was in office.”

He said that President Jonathan deserved the right to seek re-election and should not be deprived of that right by “members of a self-serving cabal who think that Nigeria is their private estate.”

    1. They actually do. I buy their idea. I am neither in Ohaneze group nor pdp. I do not like pdp as a party and the same time would never vote for Buhari. Nigeria will loose its democracy if one goes for Buhari. I will just laught at many when the suffering begins. GEJ is not really a good choice but he is better than Buhari by far

    2. Anonymous, it unfortunate that your level of education and knowledge of The Igbo people are very low. A tribe like The Igbos are not useless in Nigeria infact the igbos are a force to reckon with in Nigeria. Please show some decency and maturity when addressing issues of National concern. In a more civilised environment, comments like yours are not published. This is because it is below rating.

    3. Yoruba man u opened ur cursed mouth to speak ill of Igbos. May God judge u & ur generation. Igbos stand tall wherever u r. Be wise this tension heating up the polity is beyond military dictatorship vs democracy, muslim vs Christian, negative change vs corruption, islamizing vs maintaining status quo. It is about balancing this power. The military cabal of Obj, Buhari is about to fall. Gen. Babangida has turned his back on them. Jonathan whether clueless, corruptive or not must complete his 2nd term. Then he must usher in an Igbo President in 2019. This balance of power is sacrosanct and must be adhered to. Infact God has endorsed it.

  11. I see no reason Obasanjo as a state man is causing problem here and there, how can an old man who suppose to make peace is showing hatred just because Jonathan refuse to dance to his tone? baba you are old now, the issue of bomb blast started from your regime, stop castigating GEJ because of your eye service, come 2015 we will still vote for Jonathan there is no other credible candidate for now

    2. Sorry you are still minority as far as election is concern. Put the South East and the south-South votes together its not up to the north east and north west votes. You Jonathan supporters are not helping him. You campaign on ethnic line forgetting that democracy is about numbers.

  13. Whether you guys accept it or not, Obasanjo is not sincere in all he's been doing in this country, and we know it. This has nothing to do with tribe. Jonathan has outdone all the past leaders, including OBJ,the change the APC is promising, has already started with GEJ. It's just that the rot in the system, caused by past governments, Buhari,IBB,OBJ etc,is so much that only those who have eyes and good brains are able to see that GEJ has done enormous work.
Ordinarily, it will take more than two full tenured of any sincere government, to clear the rot,but GEJ has done remarkably well.

  14. I read some comments and tears starts rolling down my cheek. Those of you clamoring for war and blood, I am very sure you really don't know what WAR is all about. You may be foolish enough to realize that those politicians you are killing yourselves for can easily relocate themselves and their families abroad. Infact, don't be surprised that they all have an escape plan in case war bursts out in Nigeria today. Then you and your family will be left behind to suffer the consequences. And when there's calm, they will return back to the country and continue enjoying their lives. By then, you and probably your family members are no more. Your blood would have been sacrificed for their own peace. So when you make comments, be objective and put sentiments, religion and tribe away. God bless Nigeria. WE DON'T WANT WAR! Kay Joe

  16. The old baboon called Obasanjo should return to his in ota and stay there quietly, bearing in mind that he is counting his days to the grave, for all the altrocities he committed in this country will never let him go unpunished.Ihope he has not forgotten so soon that he belongs to the prisons.Him and his co-generals can never be happy with President Jonathan because there are no oil block acquisitions and offcourse expired acquisition certificates are no more renewed. For the drums of war that he is beating,I hope the baboon general will stay in Nigeria and fight and not creat an exit root for himself as he did during the civil war with bullets wound.
