I have added value to governance in Nigeria - Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has said that his administration has done a lot to improve the living condition of the citizenry.

Speaking at an interactive session with State House correspondents at his Marina residence on Friday night, Fashola said that his administration had added value to governance.

He described attacks on his administration by the opposition as “unfair”, insisting that he had done so much to improve the living standard of the people since he assumed office in 2007.

According to him, all the sectors of the state’s economy, including housing, education and revenue generation, have witnessed significant improvement under his watch as governor.

“Let me say that in every election, the records of the government in power must be an issue, and I am happy that at least our record is the issue.

“But our record as a state government is a record of performance and promises kept and development fulfilled.

“I have listened to criticisms and allegations about my performance and all the allegations are about my record and I must defend my record.

“If you look at my record, whether as Chief of Staff, go to the Chief of Staff office, I added value when I took over from Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

“That is what leaders do, they add value to what they met,” he said.

Fashola also said that he had added value to governance when he took over from his predecessor, Bola Tinubu.

“I employed more people into the civil service and increased salaries, I paid pensions and everywhere you go, you will see the touch of our government and party.”

He however said governance is a continuous process, stressing that, “it is not a finished job and I will never pretend to anybody that the job has finished.”

The governor described the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, as an experienced technocrat capable of moving the state forward.

Answering question on why the state retained the death penalty in its criminal law, Fashola said it was based on a survey, which showed that residents favoured the death sentence for armed robbers and murderers.

The governor restated his commitment towards the development of the state.

  1. Mr FASH U have truly "DONE WELL" under the WATCH or TINUBU. Every market, LCDA OFFFICES that U built are named after TINUBU. At TEJUOSHO market it is TINUBU, at ALABA market TINUBU, at AJIF LGA TINUBU reception HALL, at COKER AGUDA LCDA TINUBU HALL. So with all Ur ACHIEMENTS no FASHOLA ROOM, let along ROAD/STREET. Bros after MAY 29, nobody go hear of FASHOLA AGAIN.

    1. EL-KATOSKY. Igbo man. governance is about building institution and not about individual (I don't know if you are able to comprehend this). so it is the works and legacy Fashola has left behind that will speak for him after his tenure ends. This government and his predecessor has given your kins men the needed cooperation and conducive atmosphere to thrive and do their business and progress . His government has even given them the slot for the post of Commissioner for finance since the tenure of Tinubu who you have cast aspersion on (Where in Igbo land can this show of generosity happen). Your view is that of a parochial and narrow sighted individual regarding Lagos State Government cooperation and support for the Igbos. You have just demonstrated the propensity for ungratefulness which some minority Igbos in Lagos have shown to their host government.

  3. What has happened to your rail road project that is to extend to okokomaiko! I laugh! After 8years you've not even gotten to Festac! Common! 8 good years! And you're here beating your chest and extolling yourself! SMH! My dear governance is not about removing waste and planting flowers! Those are mayoral responsibility! And yes you've excelled in those ones! But then you're not a mayor! You're not a local govt chairman! You're a governor! You have to create jobs, you have to put infrastructure!, aside the islands lagos has not enough good roads! No water infrastructure in Lagos! No metro lines!, the Lagos state university has no hostels, the teaching hospital is always on strike and in pitiable state! No rail lines, BRT is now a shadow of itself! No sustainable structure in place! Governance is not about propaganda! It's about impacting lives to the average man! Fashola you failed! You're only saviour is that in the land of the blind, one eyed man is a king! That's exactly were you belong! You're one eyed in the context of nigeria's governance!

  4. It is only a dead living man such as you will conclude that Fashola and his government failed Lagosians. Maybe you are confusing Fashola for GEJ. Even blind men can see and feel his giant strides in infrastructural developments all over Lagos. Stop deceiving yourself. Fashola is a miracle worker. He has set standard in Stop and it is glaring some states now adopt his governance model. Fashola is an epitome of good leadership that Nigeria needs to be truely transformed. He never mixes governance with politics and he is constantly passionate to making Lagos a better place to live or do business.

what we should be criticising is the standard. The man has performed better than any government of today. He is still working even at this dying minute of exit.

  7. Fashola has really done well, kudos to you BRF. Those who think you have not done well can go back to their state to develop it. Keep it up.

  8. BRF has really tried for lagos state. I've been to most places in lagos and I don't think there's one LGA that didn't witness development and to be honest, all states APC handled are fast developing more than PDP states abi that na lie too?
There are some development plans which BRF have for Lagos but was interrupted by the Government for political reasons which most ppl don't know.
We need a Set of good ppl that undrrstand Government the way APC's handled government.

    1. Bros, try and make findings y he's owing and what's the plan b4 they went for Loan. After that, I'll come here and say BRF really try for Lagos. Lagos state being governed by APC makes it difficult to get so many things approved to them from the federal government for political reason. Although, not that he didn't curve some things o but BRF has really tried for Lagos I swear.

  12. Fashola after eight years of your reign, Lagos still does not have pipe borne water, no drainage, each time it rains God Almighty shows you how shallow you really are. Just sweeping the streets and planting gardens on Federal roads does not amount to stellar performance. You failed woefully!!!
