General Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate has praised President Goodluck Jonathan for assuring Nigerians that he will handover power if he loses in the forthcoming presidential election slated for March 28.
Buhari commended Jonathan when the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Mr Kadre Ouedraogo, on Wednesday visited in Abuja.
Buhari assured the delegation of a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the elections and praised Jonathan for assuring to hand over to whoever emerged winner at the polls.
“The six weeks extension is accommodated in the Constitution for holding elections and INEC has said it has recorded between 75-80 per cent successes in the distribution of the voter cards.
“Mr President has made very encouraging comments weeks ago by saying he’ll hand over to whoever emerged winner.
“We told our supporters to embrace peace before the accord and even after the signing of the accord we have continued to urge them to show restraint.
“We intend to maintain this pressure until the elections take place,” Buhari said.
Ouedraogo disclosed that ECOWAS has deployed 250 election observers to Nigeria for upcoming general elections. He said that the commission was interested in peace and stability in Nigeria, because it would engender development in the country, the region and Africa.
“We have decided to deploy an observer team of 250 persons to Nigeria and we have decided to deploy a long-term observation mission.
“They were deployed from January 20 to all the geo-political zones of Nigeria. They came back on February 9 after the postponement of the election but we had debriefing session with them.
“So, they made their observation and recommendations and we have decided to engage all the stakeholders to exchange views and to share their findings and their observations,” he said.
He stated that the visit was to get the APC’s candidate’s views on the electoral process. “In addition, we must be grateful if we can have your views on the electoral process so that we can put it in the way ECOWAS is going to bring its support to peaceful and stable elections in Nigeria.
“This is because peace and stability are essential for development and we know that peace and security in Nigeria are so important for the rest of our community,” Ouedraogo said.
He recalled that the mandate of ECOWAS was to monitor and observe all general elections in all member states, saying “and for us, elections in Nigeria are special.
“They are of great importance for peace and stability to our region and this is the reason the chairman of the authority together with all ECOWAS institutions are following very closely electoral process in Nigeria,” he added. ReplyDeleteDream on general. come out and tell why you think you are fit to rule Nigeria again
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately for this General, Jonathan made the same statement in 2011, and I do not see any difference, yes he has to but likely to himself. So this is the only thing you can commend the president for? A wishful dream I think, my opinion though.
ReplyDeleteHE will not handover to any body, jonathan will be the last president of this country if u pple dont take care. BIAFRA IS ALIVE BCOZ IT's GOD WHO MADE IT SO.
ReplyDeletethis is the same man who fail to appear in debate. iiiiiddddddiiiiiiioooooootttttttt. Noise maker(s)
ReplyDeleteTo the person talking about Biafra. Be careful what u wish for. Look at North and South Sudan. South Sudan went up in flames after they split, NA one religion and language dey that country. To the person talking about debate, if u were to to be in his shoes, don't forget all the lies told about you, how you have been labeled what u are not etc. then u perceive that the same enemy is setting a trap for you in the form of an interview, will u go there? So much has been thrown at GMB including wishing him ILL health and even death courtesy Ekiti state govt, including calling him an illiterate when non of u here can even boast of having the quality of education he has had. Tell me, if this man were to be ur father how will u feel? Gods hands are on GMB, you can all go to hell.
ReplyDeleteMaskum Mohammed has just spoken the truth. God's hand is on GMB and no weapon fashion against him shall prosper. The wind of CHANGE is blowing across the length and breath of Nigeria and any one who refuses to move with it will only be blown away just like a dust. MY COUNTRY PEOPLE, WHERE DO YOU STAND?
ReplyDeleteon Gej we stand, the hand of God is on Gej more than buhari bcoz Gej is the only one who from ward councelor to lg chearman to deputy govnor to govnor frm govnor to vice president frm vice president to acting president and frm acting president to the president of the fedral republic of Nigeria. any body who is fighting Jonathan if fighting God's anointed man and such person is bound to fail shamelesly.
