Governments perform better during second term, Nigerians should give me another chance - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said most governments worldwide perform better during the second term of their administrations.

He said his administration’s case would not be an exception as he was set to do more in the next four years, if re-elected, than what he has achieved in the last four years.

Jonathan spoke during a meeting he had with members of the Kogi State Council of Chiefs at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja, Kogi State.

The President was in the state in continuation of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign rally.

He said public office holders perform better during their second term because they have enough time to settle down and plan for national development.

He said, “Whatever we have done in the last four years, we believe that we will even do more in the next four years.

“Most governments all over the world do better in their second tenure.

“This is because the Presidents are more stable that time, especially in this two terms arrangement.

“They are more stable. They sit down and plan for the country and focus on key areas.”

Jonathan promised that if re-elected, his administration would give more attention to the Ajaokuta Steel Company of Nigeria and ensure that the steel is included into the nation’s rail system.

He added that in the face of reducing crude oil price, his administration would also continue to give more attention to the development of solid minerals and agriculture among others.

He promised to continue to work with the state government to develop Kogi State.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, had assured the traditional rulers of the present administration’s resolve to restore their constitutional roles.

He said the PDP as a party could not understand why traditional rulers who he described as the custodians of culture and tradition are still being denied of connotations roles.

“Our party leader, President Jonathan, is leading the crusade to bring you back into the constitution,” he told the traditional rulers.

Muazu added that since the traditional rulers’ support in 2011 led to their success, they decided to visit them again for their royal blessings.

Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State said traditional rulers in the state had always been supportive of the present administration’s transformation agenda.

He expressed the belief that they would do more as the elections draw nearer.

The Attah Igala, Idakwo Michael Oboni II, who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers, asked Jonathan to go ahead with his administration’s laudable projects.

He promised the President that the people of the state, being his second home, would continue to support him.

  8. My father use to tell me while I was younger, that when a change is in the offing truth begins to prevail.
Just imagine mumu GEJ telling his idiotic family to wait for another 4yrs.
Me think he's a complete confused person. Does he think we are fools like his family in Otueke.
Get it straight, you can fool some people for some times but you can not fool all the people all the time, food for thought.

  10. The more our president campaigns the more he loses support. He would have faired better in the coming election if he had remained in his office in Abuja. Mr. President, word of advice, withdraw honourably from this contest to avoid disgrace.

  15. The man just lies too much. Has he not spent 6 years already. Again, check it, generally governments only consolidate on their first term achievements during their second term. In fact, the general belief is that most governments don't perform well in their second terms. So what is the president saying? Ole, Oniro. He lies too much and he does not sincerely respect God and mankind. He's gone except there is no God. Bunch of hypocrites.
