The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), planned to visit the parents of the over 200 girls kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect in Chibok, Borno State on Tuesday.
He left for chibok with his entourage, but turned back half way there.
This was contained in a Facebook post on the ‘Buhari 2015′ fan page on Tuesday.
Buhari said, “We left for Chibok in spite of JTF’s refusal to go along with us. Good must triumph over evil.
“I was personally moved when I came out and saw thousands of Civilian JTF members, who had volunteered to provide security for us.”
The APC Presidential candidate lamented the reluctance of the JTF to provide security for his entourage because of lack of clearance from Abuja.
Buhari, in the post, thanked the people of Chibok for “coming out in their thousands to support us.”
He added, “Once again, I am assuring the Chibok community that we are standing with them and if elected to power, we will do all things possible to eradicate insurgency in the country and facilitate the return of our daughters.”
Update:
Gen Buhari eventually shelved the plan to visit chibok due to security concerns. details below....
The spokesman of the APC presidential campaign council, Garba Shehu, has explained that even though the APC candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, was initially scheduled to visit Chibok town, he had to put it off at the last minute due to the tight schedule and the crowd that opted to follow the former Head of State to the Borno State town.
Chibok is the Borno town where over 200 school girls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists in April 2014.
According to Shehu, “Buhari was scheduled to visit, but the enormity of the crowd (apart from the rally and a visit to the Shehu of Borno) made everything impossible. A date for Chibok is under consideration.”
