Borno State Government has inaugurated an eight-man committee for the distribution of 432 free apartments to victims of insurgency at the Yerwa Peace Estate, Maiduguri, for residents of Bula-Bulim Ngarnam.
Inaugurating the committee in Maiduguri, Governor Kashim Shettima said the gesture would enable the affected people to return to their normal life after losing their houses to the insurgency.
He said the gesture was also part of government’s responsibility of providing for the needy, adding that the houses were constructed at the cost of about N700 million by a committee appointed by the state government.
“Since assuming office in 2011, we have left no one in doubt about our resolve to providing housing to our teeming population as it is one of our cardinal objectives.
“We have been able to construct houses across the state in spite of the insecurity facing us.’’
Shettima said the government had launched a programme for the elimination of thatch and stalk houses across the state, adding that some successes had been recorded along the line in spite of the insurgency.
