Benue residents flee to Taraba, others after Fulani’s invasion

Hundreds of people are said to be fleeing the agrarian communities that are constantly under attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

A community leader from Anyiin, who identified himself simply as Agber, told our correspondent that the invaders were suspected to be hiding in Nasarawa State.

Agber said, “We have every belief that this suspected Fulani insurgents, who continually invade and displace our communities, are been camped in Nasarawa State.

“They usually attack us and retreat to Nasarawa State without resistance from there and our submission is that the Governor of Nasarawa State should assist our communities to stop their movement along their border.”

It was gathered that hundreds of persons had been rendered homeless by the gunmen while the displaced persons had no where to hide in the area, leaving them with no option but to flee.

Residents of Anyiin and other villages in Ukemberagya council were said to have fled to the neighbouring communities of Taraba State.

Others were said to be crossing the tributaries of River Benue at Buruku and Kwatan Sule.

Kwaghgande, who was sighted at the bank of Buruku River with his wife, children and few personal belongings, said, “The situation is terrible and we can no longer stay, no camps; and that is why we are running to stay with my brother-in-law at Tyogbenda community.

Meanwhile, the Benue State Government has set up a joint security operations to restore normalcy in the affected communities.
