Most supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan cannot give reasons why he should be reelected on March 28, 2015, a non-governmental organisation, Change Initiative Forum, has said.
The group stated that although the supporters believe that the present administration had performed commendably, 70 per cent of them would not be able to state some of the achievements of the current government.
The Coordinator, CIF, Mr. Genesis Jeremiah, told journalists in Abuja that the development prompted the group to publish a book on the President’s feats while in office.
He said, “Virtually 70 per cent of those fighting for Mr. President to be reelected cannot articulate the reason why he should come back with facts and figures. All they know is that he has done well as President despite the challenges.
“That is why the Change Initiative Forum came up with this idea of detailing his achievements in a book titled ‘Why Goodluck Jonathan should be reelected in 2015.’ This is to provide reasons and facts for these very persons to be able to defend what they are standing for as it relates to the various sectors of the Nigerian economy.”
Jeremiah said the group had taken its campaign across the country, adding that it had “gone to the six geopolitical zones to conduct rallies and we decided to present the book in Abuja being the grand finale of the entire process.”
On some of the achievements, he said the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill was remarkable in that it had given people the freedom to speak up on issues without fear or favour.
Jeremiah said, “The way people insult and embarrass Mr. President has never been recorded in the history of this country and the reason is because he passed the FOI bill.
“Secondly, years back, about 90 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue was from the oil sector. But this has changed because sectors like agriculture and transport are now contributing commendably to the country’s revenue. Yes there are issues but with time they will be addressed.”
A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a member of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Abba Gana, said the book would enlighten Nigerians on the performance of President Jonathan.
“The book is timely because it will enlighten Nigerians so that they can make the best political choice for themselves and for the country. I am sure it will guide Nigerians and will also let people see the performance of the President very clearly,” he said. ReplyDeletewhat is d reason y buhari should be elected? what was his achievement when he was the head of state?
ReplyDeleteMyopic nd ungrounded set of idiots who can't differentiate b/w good nd bad. Any northerner dat wil say that Gej did not do anytin in northern part of the con3 will not live to see 28 march 2015.
ReplyDeleteYeah, very timely book. I know GEJ's achievement and I can see them physically, only the blind and fools wont see his achievement and its their problem not mine. And the FOI bill is a killer to his administration and I sincerely hoped he has learnt his lessons.
ReplyDeleteThank God I can see. A $1=213. Idiots
ReplyDeleteWhy should Buhari be elected? GEJ has done a lot. A lot of things I could not achieved during OBJ administration, I was able to achieve during GEJ. There are improvement in rail transport. Of all Nigerian president in history he has the record of establishing the highest numbers of Federal Universities (14 new universities). I am not an economist but common sense will tell you that it means more job and increase in the numbers of students that can get into schools. The universities are in Kogi, Taraba, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Bayelsa, Gombe, Ekiti, Nasarawa and Katsina states. These states have being existing since and all his predecessors never taught of doing this. The primary problem in Nigeria is lack of education. Government cannot employ people that did not go to school and it is not possible for government to employ all Nigerians. He also introduced the Youwin Entrepreneur program (via www.youwin.com). This helps people that have good business ideas without money to establish. I know that some of you will claim that some of the existing university is in disarray why creating new ones. The reason why this is important is that since these states were created the previous government including that of OBJ are so blind to the fact that there is need for more institution to cater for the large numbers of UTME students. There is also need to make education accessible to every state in the federation. There are other improvement I do not know of but I can only speak of my sector (the ICT). Thank God GEJ made effort to improve how foreigners see Nigeria. Now many foreign institution that previously blocked Nigeria have added Nigeria (eg Paypal). All the past Nigerian government did not care for how this is making my small business suffer for a fault that is not mine. GEJ through his fight for foreign collaborators help open the route for Paypal to accept Nigeria. THANKS to GEJ, your effort has made my business to get in touch with vendors I cannot reach because of Paypal Account. I would like to tell GEJ thank you once again. I can see very sincere effort in his administration to improve the ICT sector especially internet services. His effort will make Nigeria the best in the ICT world. There has being a great effort to improve power, but it has being sabotaged my GEJ opposition by the breaking of gas pipelines. The only problem with GEJ is that it is a true civilian government so the Boko Haram war was devised by those that does not like him so that there would be a distraction. I have seen different xmas cartoons of GEJ. If you think that you are in democracy during Buhari's regime try that and see if you will not be declared missing the next day. It is sweet that we can insult our president and get away with it. TRUELY TRUELY I say unto you do that in Buhari's regime and you will be missing. In the beginning things might look ok but the ending ... i better not say. Change in the currency is due to fall in international fuel price. i am seriously praying to God for a barrel of fuel to be sold for 5 naira to a barrel because I know Nigerians not just the president will always depend on oil until it is completely useless. All the state government in other states have abandoned their resources. Everybody is waiting for oil money. (A lazy man attitude. It is equivalent to this I stop working because my father have money). One day that money will finish and no one will teach you what to do. In fact O God let a barrel of petroleum be sold at 1 kobo so that Nigeria as a nation will come to his senses. OIL IS MAKING SOME STATES IN NIGERIA VERY LAZY
ReplyDeleteThis is a good piece , apart from Above GEJ has improved Agriculture now there is food every where in Nigeria In December a bag of Rice fell from N13,000 to N8,500 We are now exporting cassava , about to start exporting Rice, the fartalizer corruption that has lasted over 40 years has been quelled .farmers can now get fartalizer by just texting on their GSM,the railway is now in place people can travel from lagos to North by N1000, not just train an air condition Train, you can say the exchange rate is high , it is due to global fall in oil price , most countries are even worse heat The world is amazed at the development of Nigetia and we are cooping with the oil reduction because GEJ government focused our attention in diversified economy, very soon cocoa will start to be harvested , our steal industry will soon start operation, our military are gaining all the places taken by BH, You should ask yourself question, why did America not support GEJ , the reasons are because of our oil,America was taking 1,800b daily for free until GEJ came in and blocked all the loop holes , American stopped buying our oil because what they said our capacity was ,was 700b a day not knowing that it was 2500 b a day., secondly the advice of the American APC campaign advicer was to stop buying our oil, , to refuse to sell arms to us , to also refuse to fight BH all these is to give impression that GEJ had failed but God is with GEJ , Look at the way Nigeria fought Ebola, when we asked America to give is the vaccine for Ebola they said know that they will give us soldiers, all these are the ways they want to occupy Nigeria with their military so that we will be paying with our oil,Nigeria please be wise you can imagine another 4 years of GEJ Nigeria will be like Malashia, please the word CHANGE is gimmick unless we want to change from good to worst
