Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost socio-political body of the Igbos, on Tuesday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election in the 2015 presidential elections.
The body took the decision at a meeting at its national secretariat in Enugu.
Noting that Igbos contributed massively to Jonathan’s victory in 2011, Ohanaeze Ndigbo said it had to choose between backing the President to complete his second term in office, or withdrawing its support for him.
In arriving at the decision to back Jonathan, Ohanaeze said it took note of the fact that, although the President had not done as much as Igbos expected from him, he has improved infrastructure in the South-East, and given Igbos a general sense of belonging in his administration.
A statement, titled ‘Presidential Election, 2015: The Stand of Ndigbo,’ which was jointly signed by the President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey, the Chairman, South-East Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, and the Secretary-General, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, said the endorsement followed wide consultations.
The body also stressed that the decision to endorse Jonathan was made in the “collective interests” of all Igbos, as well as in solidarity with the people of the South-South. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

I thought we Igbos were more smart thanan this, but i guess not. Supporting a man who has destroyed the nation over six years does not make sense.
ReplyDeleteThen u go support Buhari, is that an option for u? If eventually wins he will change to something else, u should Change is it for good or for bad no one know what u chant is only change, let GEJ finish his remaining 4yrs let's see what he has then ur Buhari can come and show his style, Igbos has sense right from the begining. Period.
ReplyDeletePlease can some one tell me how to Change PDP they have been ruling Nigeria for 16years now and they always complain that the present government is better than the last is it not the same party that produce all this candidate, what worries me now is that OUR BELOVED NIARA HAS BEEN DEVALUED like the Ugandan money (tissue) paper During the time of Idi Ami to N210. to $1
ReplyDeleteAbeg make una help because we are falling really fast.
The Ohaneze Ndigbo members can only speak for themselves on this issue. They have been bribed by the presidency as usual. How much support did they give to our highly revered Eze Igbo Gburugburu, Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu in blessed memory when he contested for Presidency in 2003? That is what you see when people throw away integrity and go for stomach infrastructure. Ohaneze, can you people tell me the reason why the construction of Enugu - Onitsha expressway has been going on at the rate of less than 1 kilometre per year? How come the federal government under the leadership of GEJ waited until last year before the ground breaking of 2nd Niger Bridge was performed? 2015 elections??Of all the federal bridges in Nigeria, how come it's only the 2nd Niger Bridge that they want to execute under public private partnership (PPP) arrangement? The Igbos would be made to pay for this project and you don't see it as marginalization under the administration of your "adopted son and kinsman Ebele Azikiwe"? Ohanaze members, please speak for only yourselves and your stomachs. We the Igbos are hard working and courageous folks who always strive to achieve excellence in all that we do and we cannot join you people to cue behind incompetence and cluelessness. Many Igbos have died in the North in the hands of Boko Haram and your "adopted son" could not bring the perpetrators to justice. Must your own blood be spilled before you know that we need change. Must they carry out these dastardly act against us in the east before you know that GEJ lacks the political will to take major decisions in this country. The Igbos need change and the time is now.
ReplyDeleteI can see you are an illiterate like Buhari otherwise you suppose to know that it is due to fall in global oil market secondly what type of change do you want to give Nigerias when APC is full of Aggrieved PDP Members who are rejected. and are looking for political relevance
