President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said the nation would soon see the back of the Boko Haram insurgents as the military was now better equipped to take on the terrorist group.
He promised that all territories captured by the violent sect would soon be liberated.
Jonathan, who paid a surprise visit to Maiduguri, the capital of the troubled Borno State, gave this assurance during a visit to the victims of the Baga attacks, who are accommodated at an Internally Displaced Persons camp at the Teachers Village, Maiduguri
He said briefings from the service chiefs showed that the 10 local government areas under Boko Haram’s control would soon be recaptured by the Nigerian military.
“Let me assure you that we will soon take over all the areas. From the briefings I have received from the service chiefs, I assure you we will take over the towns and communities,” the president said during the visit.
He also promised the IDPs that they would go back to their various communities soon.
Addressing officers and men of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army at the Maimalari Cantonment, Jonathan said the military was now better equipped to counter the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East states than before.
“The Nigerian military is now better off in term of equipment than it was in the past. We will continue to do our best to ensure the armed forces are better equipped,” he said.
He commended the military troops for the sacrifices made in the North-East, loyalty and dedication.
The President added, “What you’re doing is not easy. We thank you as a nation. Terrorism is a global phenomenon. We’re working day and night, trying to curtail this madness.
