We’ll expand the Nigerian economy to discourage stealing - Buhari

Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), on Wednesday said his administration would focus on the expansion of Nigeria’s economy in order to discourage stealing when voted into government.

Specifically, he said major development of the agricultural sector would bring about an immediate relief to the thorny issue of unemployment in the country.

Buhari said this at the playground of Government Secondary School in Calabar, Cross River State, while addressing a mammoth crowd that had come to receive the APC Presidential Campaign train that is on tour of states in the South-South geopolitical zone.

This came just as the Director-General of General Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation and Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, charged electorate in the geopolitical zone to vote out President Goodluck Jonathan, whom he said did not perform as someone from the region to warrant being voted for in the 2015 election.

Accompanied by the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Senator Olorunimbe Mamora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Prince Tony Momoh, APC governorship candidate in Cross River, Mr. Odey Ochicha, among others, Buhari said his party would tackle insecurity and expand the economy if voted into power.

He said, “The situation in Nigeria is of great concern to us. We are going to attack two fundamental programmes. These are security and economy. We are determined to make sure that the economy is expanded so that the tendency to steal is discouraged. Agriculture will be given priority and this will give immediate relief to the huge unemployed Nigerians.”

Buhari also said the power sector would be stabilized in order to resuscitate dying industries in the country.

“If you go down memory lane, during the period of regional governments, the leaders then used to allocate 43 per cent of the budget on education and that is why their names will never be forgotten. We will try to secure our country; we will ensure industries are resuscitated.

“Our industries are dying and will continue to die unless we get the issue of power supply correct. We will resuscitate our industries,” he added.

Buhari appealed to electorate to ensure they secure their Permanent Voter Cards and vote massively for the APC in the February general elections.
