The strike embarked upon by judiciary workers on Tuesday stalled further hearing in the coroner’s inquest into the collapse of a guest house within the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).
On Jan. 5, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria commenced an indefinite strike to press demand for financial autonomy for states’ judiciaries.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria monitoring the strike reports that the Ikeja High Court premises had been locked up by JUSUN members for the second day running.
The inquest was instituted under the Lagos State Coroner’s System Law No. 7 of 2007 to unravel the cause of the building collapse.
A total of 116 persons were killed when the six-storey building collapsed on Sept.12.
On Dec. 23, the Coroner, Mr Oyetade Komolafe, adjourned further hearing till Jan. 6, because of the Christmas celebrations.
No further date has been fixed for continuation of the inquest.
