The Delta State Police Command on Monday paraded, before reporters, a third year mass communication student of the Delta State University, Abraka who along with her friends made money from her mother by faking her kidnap.
The girl, Chinwe Bosah, who hails from Onitsha in Anambra State and her lover, George Itietie from Eku, Delta State had connived with another friend, Sunday America to arrange her kidnap and demand a ransom of N10 million from the girl’s mother.
They eventually got N500,000 but the police followed a trail and arrested the three of them.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman, said the mother of the girl, one Beatrice Bosa from Kwale, Delta State, reported that her daughter had been kidnapped on December 12.
“Sequel to the report, operatives of Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad Asaba, swung into action and arrested one America Sunday Ogagawotu at Oyigbo, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, on December 24 after withdrawing the ransom which was paid into his Ecobank Account in Port-Harcourt.
“Investigation into the incident revealed that the victim, on leaving Lagos went to her boyfriend, one George Itietie in Port-Harcourt where herself, the said George Itietie and America Sunday Ogagawatu planned to inform her parents that she was kidnapped so as to extort money from her parents,” the CP said.
He said the girl got N100,000.00 as her own share from the ransom of N500,000.00 paid by her parents, while the boys shared N400,000.
The girl, who said she regretted her involvement in the act, said she has brought disgrace and odium to her family that is well known.
She said she would not say now if she would continue with the affair after the end of the case. “Right now, I am not thinking. It is when I leave here that I can say what will happen to us,” she said.
