Okorocha accuses Imo Police boss of working for PDP

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, has accused the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, of working for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to detriment of other political parties including the All Progressive Congress, APC.

The governor in a statement through Sam onwuemeodo, his Senior Special Assistant on Media, lamented that such glaring partiality did not reflect the federal colouration of the Nigeria police force.

The governor, who made the allegation while donating five Hilux buses to the Imo Police Command to encourage it to continue to combat crimes in the state, said it was shocking that the police in the state provided unparralled security for the Imo PDP before, during and days after their primaries, but could not do the same to APC and other political parties in the state that also carried out same exercise.

Governor Okorocha noted that as governor in the state, he had never interfered in the operations of security agencies because of his firm belief that they were meant to protect the interest of all Nigerians irrespective of their political parties, saying it became regrettable when some of such agencies began to act in a manner that would give the impression that they were being partial.

He said Imo people including the youths, market women, students, traders, artisans, taxi and Keke Napep operators would defend what was right in the state including protecting their votes in the 2015 election in the state.

He appealed to federal institutions in the state to appreciate the fact they owed Nigerians their duties and not to any particular political party.
The governor however, commended the Police Commissioner and entire police personnel in the state for fighting crimes to a standstill.

Okorocha specifically stated that the commissioner and all the ranks and file of the command in the state, including the DPOs had been very wonderful, noting that the command had dealt a deadly blow on kidnapping, child trafficking, armed robbery and other crimes and that the donation of the buses was to further encourage them.

In his speech, Mr. Ali said the police in the state under his command would not be partisan, but would only ensure a level playing ground for all including political parties, noting that the police in the state would ensure protection of lives and properties during the 2015 election in the state.

The commissioner warned parents to guard against their children and wards been recruited by politicians as thugs to cause trouble in the state during the election, threatening that the police would deal decisively with such elements when caught.

He added that the police had fought crimes to zero point, noting that it would not have been possible without the state government’s cooperation.
