President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that no government could solve Nigeria’s problems within four years.
The President painted this gloomy picture on Monday when he paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari in continuation of his re-election campaign.
He emphasised that beyond tackling the Boko Haram insurgency, his administration was addressing other challenges in several sectors of the economy, including creating jobs through diverse means, reports Daily Trust.
He said: “Beyond tackling the insurgency, we are creating road networks; we are moving faster in several sectors. There is no way within four years any government can finish the programmes of this country”.
The President’s declaration contrasted sharply with his previous remark over four years ago in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Jonathan had while interacting with Nigerians in Addis-Ababa, in February 2011, promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in power, especially.
He had said: “Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to address and we are working towards that with vigour.
“But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past.
“Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.”
Meanwhile, in Ilorin on Monday, Jonathan disclosed that the military would take delivery of additional equipment beginning this week as part of his administration’s efforts towards containing the Boko Haram insurgency.
He expressed optimism that this would enable the country to move faster in another two weeks in curtailing the insurgency.
“We have been to many states, in Abuja, Sokoko, Gombe, Kano and Niger states and the north-east states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa where we are battling insurgency.
“And we will surely give it a halt. We are creating platform for our military and in another two weeks, we would move faster than we have been moving before,” Jonathan said.
He added: “We have intervened in several programmes especially in the area of agriculture. We are committed to moving this country forward, to create jobs for the country through diverse means.
“We are working very hard to create jobs for our youths, we are encouraging the growth of small and medium enterprises in order to improve our economy and create wealth for the people.”
Jonathan noted that he was at the emir’s palace to personally inform the royal father that he was running for his “remaining time” in office.
“Today, we are here in this state for a political rally. Your Royal Highness, we are here for a purpose. We have been here for a number of times. 2011, I was here. After that, I have been here.
“Today, we are here for the same mission that brought us in 2011. Even though you must have heard before, I’m here to personally tell you that I am running for my remaining time in office with my vice president who would continue to be my running mate”.
He introduced the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Senator Simeon Ajibola to the emir, and pledged that the people of Kwara State would continue to enjoy freedom and quality of life, if they vote in the PDP candidates.
In his remarks, the emir said having observed Jonathan’s performance over the years, he was convinced that he had done well.
He prayed God to crown Jonathan’s efforts with success and called on politicians to conduct their campaigns without violence. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

You are always lying. Remember you wanted a six year single tenure but now you want to stay ten years. So the six years single tenure you're proposing is not good for you. Again which job did you created, have you forgotten the immigration job scam, you and your minister scammed the innocent youths.
ReplyDeleteIf indeed GEJ said this; then he can't be trusted with our mandate again! Why? He gladly proclaimed 4 years ago (after 2 years in power) that 4 years is too long for him not to have an impact in the Power sector. So if he can go back on his words so blatantly, why should we trust him again?
ReplyDeleteThe same way some of you are trusting Buhari after he stated that the 2011 presidential elections would be his last and is now going back on his words.
DeleteGood answer.
DeleteMr. President, how many more years do you think you need? Maybe 40 or 50? The truth is that the score card on your past four years as President is pretty bad. Things are worse than when you took over five years ago: corruption, insecurity, joblessness, etc. You don't deserve a second term.

ReplyDeleteI FEEL LIKE CRYING FOR JONATHAN AND HIS pdp FOR THIS SELF-INDICTMENT SAGA!
ReplyDeleteIF YOU CANNOT SOLVE NIGERIAN PROBLEMS EITHER WITHIN A DAY OR MORE, THEN RELINQUISH POWER TO THE MAN BUHARI WHO HAS BY ALL STANDARDS GOT THE CAPACITY TO DO SO!
ANY WAY, I BLAME YOUR CAMPAIGN SPEECH WRITERS WHO COULDN'T EDIT YOUR SCRIPT VERY WELL, THEREBY LEADING YOU TO BETRAYING YOURSELF BY YOUR MISGUIDED PUBLIC PRESENTATION.
GEJ, THE GAME IS OVER; ENOUGH OF THIS YOUR UNNECESSARY "MONKEY-TAIL" EPISODES OF LIES UPON LIES! EVEN YOUR PAID BLACKMAIL AIRTIME SECURED IN AFRICA INDEPENDENT TELEVISION [AIT] WOULD NOT SAVE YOU AND YOUR BLOOD-SUCKING pdp, FOR NIGERIANS KNOW BETTER!
REAL NIGERIANS WOULD VOTE APC COME FEBRUARY 14; INSTAL BUHARI AS A PRAGMATIC LEADER THAT WOULD KICK-START THE REVAMPING of OUR FAILED ECONOMY.
SECURE AND SAFE-GUARD YOUR PVC, FELLOW NIGERIANS, AND VOTE THE CHANGE WE SO MUCH DESIRE! THE POWER TO ACHIEVE GOOD GOVERNANCE IS IN OUR HANDS; LET'S USE IT ARIGHT!
SEE YOU AT THE POOLING BOOT!
CORRECT TALK
DeleteDon't blame the writer, the president is a PhD holder so we are meant to believe. He should have been able to correct any flaw in the speech within seconds. It's gross incompetence on his part. Or is it a case of those whom gods want to kill they first made mad. I think his time is up.
DeleteThis is clear admittance of failure.
ReplyDeleteIf you can not solve the problem, why cling on to power. Kindly relinquish the power to more serious and determined mind that will take us to the promise land
No incompetent government can solve Nigeria's problem in 4 years or even 8 years and you already have used 5 so no need. Move on, let's try another person. Even though he looks just as incompetent, let's change soup. No need eating bad okro soup every day, we can rotate and try bad egusi soup so we don't die of severe malnutrition.
ReplyDeleteYou Excellency, you have spoken..
ReplyDeleteYes I belive u
ReplyDeleteAPC please tell your candidate to present his original certificate, we cannot be ruled with a forged certificate.
ReplyDeleteGEJ did not only fail to move Nigeria forward, he has actually undone many of the achievements of Obasanjo's administration. There's simply no reason to return this man as president unless Nigerians are moronic sadists!
ReplyDeleteI agree with MR PRESIDENT in his statement, if only we could be very realistic to agree that it's only in GEJ's present tenure that NIGERIA started experiencing real democracy and as such it's a gradually tin, if only we started democracy early then now, I bet u things would have been more better, but with good ppl like GEJ and GOD all things will be possible.
