President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday likened the current challenges facing the country to the hardship encountered by the Israelites on their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land.
Jonathan spoke during his foster daughter’s wedding thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Life Camp, Abuja.
He told the congregation that just as the Israelites eventually made it to Canaan despite the numerous challenges that confronted them on the way, Nigeria would get to its desired destination.
The president urged Nigerians to continue to support the government and pray for the country, adding that government would keep doing its best to overcome the challenges.
“This is a period in which the whole world is being challenged, just like some of the passages we read. Whenever I think about all these happenings in Nigeria it makes me remember the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land.
“When God promised they were going to be given a land full of milk and honey, ordinarily one would have expected them to just walk in and get the milk and honey.
“But they had to cross the Red Sea; that was a challenge. They had to meet people like Annas and others. That was a big challenge, but because God wanted them to be there they were able to get there.
“Surely, we will get to where we want to go as a nation. We may have the road bumps, we may have the obstacles but we will crush them and pass them.
“All we want to request is your continued support and your prayers, and we promise we will continue to do our best.”
NAN reports that the thanksgiving service followed the wedding of the president’s foster daughter, Inebharapu Paul, with Mr Simeon Onyemaechi, on Saturday.
The ceremony, which held at the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, had attracted important dignitaries including former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The wedding reception was later held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
While thanking God for success in the entire marriage process, Jonathan asked the congregation to join him in prayers for peace and happiness to reign in the couple’s home.
The president was joined by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan; his mother, Eunice, and some of his aides.
NAN also reports that special prayers were offered by the Primate of the Anglican Church, the Most Revd, Nicholas Okoh, for couple, the first family and for the nation.
He later presented a carton of the Anglican annual devotional as a gift to the president as well as the church’s hymn books and calendar to the couple. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

What a shame i can really see my president is confuse
ReplyDeleteI wonder when last, if ever, this lazy man studied the Bible! What a pity for Nigeria to have been saddled with this liability in leadership.
ReplyDeleteAmen President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I love those words and they almost provoked tears from my eyes. But remember that the Isrealites had a Moses and they wandered for 40 years. 1. We have been wandering for 55 years. That's already more! 2. Democracy in Nigeria will not permit a single person to rule for 40 years except you want to start that. 3. Have you lead us in righteousness? Are your hands and those of your cabinet clean? 4. Do you realize you can still make all your cabinet return stolen monies, confess and be in peace. 5. Sir, please we've been suffering for long without jobs yet we've not complained as much as you do despite that we see how corrupt your government has been. 6. Remember that madam patience embarrassed the whole of Nigerians with her comportment and laughable speeches! On behalf of the youths of Nigeria which represents 60% of the population, we forgive you. 7. Remove "RIG" from your dictionary because it will never be accepted on our land. 8. Abba!
ReplyDeleteThis is a poor analogy. Jonathan wants us to pray for the country while our leaders continue their theft and loot. God has given us the resources to be a successful nation but our greed, incompetence and bad leadership won't let us. Quoting the bible won't do us any good unless we get rid of those who have been stealing from us and converting us into a wretched nation. President Jonathan, you and those that you have chosen to surround yourself with are Nigeria's downfall. We are no Israelites, we are simple thieves! There is no promised land for Nigeria as long as we are lead by thieves and looters. Let's stop fooling ourselves.
ReplyDeleteYes i like ur coment he should stop fooling us nij is not a promise land.
ReplyDeleteOur President and his wife, do they Listen to theirselve b4 they talk?
ReplyDeleteLaughable speeches they utter everytime.
Pray! Pray!! Pray!!! Everytime.
We sow good we rip good.
Please let this election day hurry up and come, so we can get this confused man out of the office before his confusion lead to Alzheimer. What kind of analogy is that? Nothing shows that we are moving to the right direction, so how can we get to the so called "promise land"?
