Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has told the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to count him and his party out of the issues that led to the burning of a campaign bus of President Goodluck Jonathan in Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday.
The Presidency and PDP had in separate statements, accused APC of culpability in the incident, with the presidency telling Mr. Buhari to call his supporters to order.
But speaking through his campaign organization, Buhari denied having anything to do with violence, pointing out that the incident stemmed from the controversy over a “rigged” PDP election in Plateau state.
“PDP should leave us out of their wahala (trouble)”, a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation, Garba Shehu, read.
“The incident in Jos was passed as a ‘PDP on PDP violence’ yesterday evening, flowing from their rigged primaries.
“That is the earliest security report we got. Nobody should change that and use it to demonize opponents”.
The presidential campaign spokesman said Mr. Buhari was the first to condemn the incident the moment it was reported on Saturday.
He quoted Mr. Buhari as saying: “I have been informed of the burning of PDP campaign buses in Jos today. This is unacceptable! There is no excuse for this violence.
“I am hoping that the Police will immediately investigate, arrest and prosecute the culprits. Our democracy cannot tolerate violence in any form”. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
