Jonathan postpones campaign committee’s inauguration over sister’s death

The inauguration of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation earlier slated for Monday in Abuja has been postponed till Tuesday, a senior party official said.

The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Prof. Rufai Alkali, announced the postponement at Legacy House, the PDP Presidential Campaign office and venue of the inauguration.
Alkali said that the inauguration was postponed following the death of Presidential Jonathan’s younger sister, Mrs Nancy Jonathan-Olei, on Sunday.

Reports have it that members of the organisation and guests had already seated at the venue awaiting the president’s arrival before the announcement.

“As you are all aware, His Excellency lost his sister, Nancy Jonathan-Olei, yesterday morning.
“In view of this, the president has decided to suspend this inauguration for today until tomorrow at 11 a.m.

“Mr President has asked me to convey his apologies for the inconveniences this postponement has caused and to tell you it was due to circumstances beyond our control,’’ Alkali said.

A minute silence was, however, observed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

  2. You are very correct, the inauguration would have continued. Very selfish and self centered people. Present administration is the most tribalistic and insensitive since inception of democracy in Nigeria. Nigeria should give change a chance no matter what it will cost us. RIP to Oga Gej sister.
