President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday expressed frustration at the way the generality of Nigerians perceive corruption.
He could not understand why anyone seen to be living well is dubbed corrupt.
“If you have a good house, you are declared corrupt; if you buy a good car, you are declared corrupt. That is the definition of corruption in Nigeria today,” he said in Enugu on day two of his nationwide campaign for re-election.
Lashing out at the opposition in Enugu as he did at the flagging off of his campaign in Lagos on Thursday, President Jonathan accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of ‘over flogging’ the issue of corruption in the country with a view to ‘deceiving’ Nigerians.
He said: “They over-flog corruption because they think it is the only way to misinform the youths into believing that they are saints who have solution to the problem.
“When they sing the song of corruption, the young people will ignorantly follow it.
“They want me to fight corruption by arresting their perceived political enemies and send them to jail.
“They want this administration to play to the gallery in order to satisfy their vendetta. You cannot just arrest people and send them to jail without evidence for trial.” govern Nigeria based “on my personal habits”, but on the basis of what he termed true democracy.
He accused the APC Presidential flag bearer of ‘ selectively’ arresting Second Republic vice president Alex Ekwueme, former governor of Imo State, the late Chief Sam Mbakwe,Second Republic governor of the old Anambra State,Chief Jim Nwobodo and the late Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and sending them to jail on ‘trumped up charges’. Inflayed the opposition of drumming the issue of human rights abuse and drew the attention of “They also maltreated a respected elder statesman by going to London and kidnapped him and put him in a crate like sardine,”
He blamed past administrations of that the Navy, according to him, had only one frigate as against the current four. He asked for 100 per cent support from the people of the state saying: “We will not accept 99.9 percent.”
Also speaking,Vice President Namadi Sambo described Enugu and the Southeast as the bedrock of PDP.” Other speakers were Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Governors Theodore Orji (Abia), Sullivan Chime (Enugu) and Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom) as wellas the PDP National Chairman,Alhaji Adamu Muazu. Hhighlight of the occasion was the presentation of flag to the governorship candidate of the party in state, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Is this how GEJ wants to distort history in order to whip up sentiments against BUharo from Igbos. Buhari never jailed Ojukwu. The politicians he jsiled were not sectionally selected. I can still remember Onabanjo, Ige, Bakin Zuwo, Etc wete jailed, If GEJ describes Umaru Dikko that Buhari tried to smuggle in crate from UK to answer for corruption charges in Nigeria as a respected statesman it is unfortunate. Is it d same DIkko that said Nigerians then were not poor since they were yet to be eating from dust bin. I remember the tribunal that jailed all these people also discharged and acquitted Jakande. So Buhari only jailed those found to have committed offence
ReplyDeleteGod bless you, I was about saying what you just said but you'v said it all. May God govern the lives of all goodluck supporters the way he has governed Nigeria. Amen
DeleteGEJ was still busy trying to pass WASC/GCE at the time...so he woulnt know history!
ReplyDeleteJonathan said that Umaru Dikko is a respected stateman.Nigeria is dieing fast under Jonathan,am dissapointed in Jonathan,if i will have way he shoul be impeached before february 14th.Nigerians pls vote out this man,his goverment is the most corrupt .this president is a disgrace to this great COUNTRY NIGERIA.
ReplyDeleteThe more Jonathan speaks, the more stupid he sounds. He takes the issue of corruption too lightly, that's why he is not going to be re-elected.
ReplyDeleteBuhari is the most corrupt of all. His promotions in the was corruption cos El Rufai said he didn't pass any military exam. His reign as Minister of petroleum was bedevilled with corruption. 2.8 million dollars stolen. He was corrupt on administration of justice. Corrupt in utterances. The real corruption is the injustice in the country as instituted by Buhari. Anambra pupil scores 84% to gain admission into unity school while Zamfara need 2%. My brothers and sisters corruption is giving Kano 44 portions local govt allocation and Lagos 20 portion. We must be wise.
ReplyDeleteGJ is talking off point and he is clearly out of touch from the people. Shame on him and his advisors who are pushing us to the deep blue sea that is Buhari. Nigerians will not forgive him for making them have to make such a choice.
ReplyDeleteNow I can believe that we still have reasonable rational people in this country. You are so spot on I have personally become so disappointed with GEJ's leadership that I have no choice, I have been coaxed, unimaginably so, to root for Buhari. What a shame to GEJ that is the lowest point of his government.
DeleteWe must say no to the irrdentist called Buhari.
ReplyDeleteI think Nigerians including myself have been grossly deceived to have voted for this man called GEJ. I overated him because of his PhD degree. I did not know someone with that qualification can be this daft. They should query his qualification.
ReplyDeleteFUNNY GEJ!!! We need objective, constructive, saleable and convincing Manifestos not condemnation, tell us what u have for us in 2015 and stop picking issues and attacking personalities
ReplyDelete"How much did Jim Nwobodo stole? Money not up to the price of a Peugeot and Buhari regime send him to jail. Is that good enough? ~GEJ" @ Enugu rally. Dat obviously paint GEJ incapacitated of having a strong will 2 put an end to corruption. So much love GEJ but wit dis statement sir. U don fumble and rumble sir.
