John Fashanu has admitted that one of his regrets in football, was not getting to play for the Nigerian national team.
The former Wimbledon FC striker, insisted that it was never his fault, as many people have accused him for many years. Fashanu claims he tried all he could to wear the colours of the
Green Eagles.
According to him, the technical adviser at the time Otto Gloria, told him he was not comfortable with his style of football.
“The fact is that I really wanted to play for Nigeria and I came home on three occasions but the coach said I was not good enough to make his team, and so never selected me except for one friendly match against China where I was an unused substitute,” Fashanu told Goal.
“So, it was never my fault at all and it pained me so much that I never played for my country.”
Fashanu made only two appearances for England, after he failed to represent Nigeria.

John Fashanu is not telling the truth. He kept criticizing Nigerian Eagles saying they are inferior to England team, even saying that comparing them with England team is an insult, he is the most unpatriotic person I have ever seen. Now that his playing days are over he wants to come and be part of Nigerian Football Management Team.
