A section of the Heritage Mall in Dugbe area of Ibadan, occupied by Film House Limited, was on Saturday razed by fire which destroyed the film place section. The mall also houses Shoprite.
It was not yet clear what caused the fire incident but Mr. Victor Ayetoro, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Odua Investment Company Limited, who owns the mall said the fire was put out by men of the Oyo State Fire Service with the assistance of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Sweetco Fire services.
He said, "All the four sections of the Film House were gutted by the fire. It was the securitymen nearby that raised the alarm and called some of the workers of the Film House who had since gone home after close of work by 11pm. There was no way the staff could make it to the mall because it happened late in the night. The security alerted the Mall Chief Security Officer who immediately called the fire service of Oyo State.
"The film house staff who came later were all surprised to see what had happened as no equipment could be salvaged," added Ayetoro, who said property worth millions of naira was destroyed in the fire.
Ayetoro said the Odua team led by the Corporate Affairs Manager, Acting Human Resources Manager, Dr Funto Alonge, came to the scene around 4am.
