Governor Dickson sacks commissioner, special adviser

Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Seriake Dickson, has sacked the Commissioner for Local Government Administration, Marie Ebikake, and his Special Adviser on Special Projects, Remi Kuku.

The sacking of the two aides, which was with immediate effect, was announced on Monday.
Their removal from office was contained in a special announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

It was repeatedly aired on the state’s radio station, Glory FM 97.1,Yenagoa.
The governor had in March 2014 sacked seven commissioners in a major cabinet shake-up since his administration came on board in February, 2012.

Those affected then were Francis Egele, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ayakeme Massa, Trade, Investment and Industry, Anapurere Awoli, Health.

Others were Nelson Belief, Tourism Development, Gesiye Isowo, Special Duties (Federal Projects), Parkinson Macmanuel, Science, Technology and Manpower Development and Sylvanus Abila, Environment.

It will be recalled that it was during that executive exercise that Ebikake, who has now been removed, was redeployed from the Ministry of Transport, her first portfolio, to Local Government Administration.
The statement said the Governor’s action was in line with the administration’s process of re-organising the machinery of government to deliver on its restoration agenda.

It also announced that Dickson had ordered the immediate deployment of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Markson Fefegha, as his new Principal Executive Secretary.

It thanked both Ebikake and Kuku for their service to the state and wished them well in their future endeavours.

However, the sacking of the two female aides has continued to elicit suspicion that their removal was not unconnected with the roles they allegedly played during the traditional wedding last week of the foster daughter of Presideent Goodluck Jonathan.

It was learnt that the duo of Ebikake and Kuku allegedly shunned a blanket order asking all political appointees to shun the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, due to a similar rebuff extended to the Governor and his wife, Rachel Dickson in Abuja during Jonathan’s birthday.

It was further learnt that the venue of the traditional wedding at Otuoke, Jonathan’s country home was allegedly turned into a battle ground between women loyal to Dame Patience and those loyal to Dickson.

Meanwhile, Governor Dickson has approved the de-secondment of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Yenagoa, Didi Walson-Jack, to the Federal Civil Service after three years of service in his government.

A statement on Monday by Iworiso-Markson, said Dickson expressed appreciation to Walson-Jack for her commitment and devotion to duty in the various capacities she served during her secondment.

Walson-Jack had served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, pioneer Commissioner for Science, Technology and Manpower Development and later as Chief of Staff, Government House.

While urging Bayelsa women to emulate her, Dickson warned against the antics of failed politicians to create needless division among the people of the state with a view to fomenting political crisis.

“As a responsible government, we have the mandate to protect the state and its people,” the Governor said.
He called on patriotic Bayelsans to complement the efforts of his administration by promoting peace, unity and harmony among the people of the state.
