FIFA To Delay Elections Until February

Federation of International Football Association FIFA, has hinted it will take “some time” before it will be able to confirm names of candidates standing for election against incumbent Sepp Blatter.
Time set aside for nominations was expected to have elapsed on January 29, but a member of the world football governing body’s electoral committee Dominico Scala has said it will only start assessing candidates then.
Candidates must pass anti-corruption test before they can be passed for elections.
The three candidates standing in the way of 78-year-old Blatter and a fifth tenure are Jerome Champagne, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein and David Ginola.
Scala explained in a statement that it may likely be in February before the confirmation of official candidates.
“We have to consider that it will take some time until the Adhoc Electoral Committee will be in a position to announce the candidates,” said Scala.
“It is possible the relevant documents will be received at the beginning of February, and we have to ensure that all of them are taken into account before even being able to look into the profile specifications of any candidate.”
That “documents” will pass through the investigatory chamber of the ethics committee for integrity checks, which they must do within a ten-day ultimatum.
The 65th Fifa congress comes up in Zurich, starting on 29 May, during which the election takes place.
