Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, on Friday signed the 2015 budget of N80.94bn and three other bills into law.
The Peoples Democratic Party caucus of the Ekiti State House of Assembly had on December 31 passed the 2015 budget in a closed-door session, after jerking it up by about N166 million from N80.774 billion.
The other bills signed into law by the Governor are Ekiti State Peace Corps (Repeal) Law, Grant of Pensions (Amendment) Law 2014 and Ekiti State Change of Official Logo (Amendment) 2014.
Fayose said the 2015 budget focused on the civil servants, education, health and the overall development of the state.
He said the law establishing Peace Corps initiated by the immediate past administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi was repealed because of the negative motives behind its establishment.
“Peace Corps was only carrying peace on the surface, the actual reasons for its institution was evil,” he said.
He said the pension law would accommodate former governors and their deputies including Segun Oni, who had served the state.
“The law has restored full privileges and benefits to all former governors and their deputies,” he said.
Fayose who lamented that the huge debt inherited from the immediate past administration was slowing down his administration said, “We do not want to dwell on the challenges but we want to forge ahead and deliver on our electioneering promises to the people.”
While urging the people of the state to disregard the rumour that his government had received N22 billion from the Federal Government as refund of money used to construct federal roads in the state, he challenged whoever was making such claim to disclose the banks, the government’s account and the time the money was paid.
Fayose called for the understanding of the people, promising to always pay salaries as at when due with deductions going to the appropriate quarters. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
