Manchester City lost ground on Chelsea in the title race after a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.
Fernandino’s close-range header via David Silva's deflected shot looked as if it may well give City the points with little over 15 minutes remaining, but the lead was short lived as Steven Naismith nodded Leighton Baines’ corner past Joe Hart four minutes later.
City had created the lion’s share of the chances in the opening half, with Stevan Jovetic and Jesus Navas squandering good chances.
Jovetic’s wastefulness in front of goal prompted Manuel Pellegrini to bring him off for Sergio Aguero midway through the second half. But the Argentine looked well short of match fitness and he failed to register a shot on target.
And Everton were well worthy of their point in the second half, a result that sees City drop two points on title rivals Chelsea after they beat Newcastle 2-0. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
