Twenty five Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirants in Akwa Ibom State on Thursday alleged that the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, perpetrated injustice in the just concluded nationwide primary election of the party.
The aspirants led by a former Deputy Governor of the state, Obong Nsima Ekere, made the allegation in Abuja while reporting the alleged maltreatment by Governor Godswill Akpabio, in connivance with Mu’azu, to the Akwa Ibom caucus in the National Assembly.
They asked the Senator Ita Enang-led Akwa Ibom caucus in the federal legislature to convey their plights to President Goodluck Jonathan through the Senate President, David Mark, for the purpose of correcting the alleged injustice before it will be too late.
Ekere accused Mu’azu of not taking any action over their allegation that Akpabio allegedly manipulated the list of the 1,200 delegates, who were mobilized with N1m each and directed to vote for his own candidate, Mr. Emmanuel Udom, who joined the party in July last year.
He asked Mark and Jonathan to intervene in the matter before Sunday, January 11 because all the 25 aggrieved governorship aspirants and their supporters were under intensive pressure to defect to another party where their services were desperately needed.
One of the aggrieved members, Ambassador Assam Asas, accused Mu’azu of doing nothing to resolve the Akwa Ibom crisis and he cited an instance when they were in his office for five hours on invitation but were not attended to.
Another aggrieved governorship aspirant, Senator Helen Esuene, said the patient of aspirants were running out hence they are prepared to defect en mass if the injustice in the party continues.
Enang promised his guests that he would deliver their message to Jonathan and Mark even as he accused Akpabio of turning Akwa Ibom state into a family estate by producing the governorship, National Assembly and House of Assembly candidates for the forth coming general election.
