2015: Jonathan visits Winners Chapel, seek prayers

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday visited and worshipped with members of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun state, Nigeria urging the church members to keep praying for the country ahead of the February 2015 elections.

Jonathan arrived the church in a helicopter and attended the church’s third service where he pleaded for prayers saying though he was not in church to campaign – so that people would not read another meaning to his presence – but that there was need for Nigerians to pray for the country as it nears the general elections.

Jonathan noted that there were various predictions concerning the elections, but that he believes that God would take control of the situation.

“I plead with you all to keep praying for a successful and peaceful election next month,” he said just as he commended Bishop David Oyedepo, the church’s general overseer, for his commitment to God’s work and for focusing on education.

Jonathan, who was in the church with some top members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, noted that without education, nothing much can be achieved by a society.

After his short speech, Bishop Oyedepo, who owns several universities and secondary schools, asked the members to pray for the President and for God to give him strength, courage and the wisdom to lead the country aright.

He then prayed for God to bless the President’s endeavour and for an unusual grace to come upon him.

Prior to Jonathan’s arrival, heavily-armed security operatives drawn from Lagos and Ogun states had taken strategic positions within the church to the surprise of many of the members of the church.

Jonathan left with the helicopter with which he had arrived just as the service was ending.

  1. Hmmmm...

It's quite unfortunate that the great Pentecostal Church in Nigeria has completely lost focus on it's primary divine mandate which is to evangelize and also live as Christ by demonstrating the mind of Jesus Christ.

This is really unprecedented in the history of Nigeria that the Pentecostal Church rather than being an avenue for winning lost souls to the kingdom of God, it has completely turned itself into an object of politics where someone who is a pathological liar will be bold enough to approach and canvass for votes.

It's really a pity that the Pentecostal have never even sincerely asked themselves whether GEJ is a Pentecostal i.e. whether he is indeed a Born Again Christian or not.

Let us be frank here, GEJ is never a man of his word, either in secret or in the open, how can you as a Pentecostal Minister overlook that salient quality in a man who is suppose to be the leader of a Nation. If God has same traits as GEJ, then one might as well forget the Mansions promised by Jesus Christ over there in Heaven.

I pray that God will indeed intervene on behalf of Nigeria and indeed deliver Nigerians from every shackle of ignorance and abject lack of knowledge.

May God bless and deliver Nigeria from all it's enemies both known and unknown IJN, Amen and Amen.

I consider you absolutely wrong, part of d church's primary focus is to offer guidance to a totally misguided world, as part of its evangelistic work
all through history you cannot separate the church from the polity, even in the time of Jesus both religious & political leaders sought his blessings (Nicodemus, jairus, the centurion, etc), the same with d apostles (Ethiopian eunuch, Cornelius, etc)
why do we not complain wen buhari or any of d northern leaders visit their mosques or seek support from their Islamic brethren, why do we raise eye brows when reverse is d case. I think GEJ will b open 2d idea of visiting a mosque or Islamic gathering if given d opportunity (but u know it will never come), but will they be open to d idea even if invited? u ask itself d question
its only our prayers that can save this nation, after these blood thirsty men have vowed that blood will be spilled if it doesn't go their way, in other words its either their way or the highway. their goons have sharpened swords to go to war @d slightest provocation, doesn't that call for prayers or is the president asking for too much
I think Christians should drop this their conservative delusions bcos the truth is that we are @ war
GOD BLESS NIGERIA! GOD BLESS HIS CHURCH!

  4. Anonymous 25th 2015 at 11:33pm. Did u go 2ru d write up before commenting? Is it wrong for someone who is a christian to go to church and asked d members to pray for him? Or did u read dt he went there to campaign? Or must someone be a born again christian before u will go to church. Haba! Pls is time we stop being sentimental in judgment. It is nt wrong for Mr president to go winners chapel to seek for prayer from d man of God and members of d church. Moreover winners chapel just concluded 21days fasting and prayer yesterday, so it could be dat he participated and decided to attain d church on d final day. I am nt a member of Winners chapel bt i participated in d 21days fasting and prayer.
