2015 Elections: Kofi Annan to visit Nigeria

Former Secretary-General of the United Nations, UN, Mr. Kofi Annan, is visiting Nigeria as interests and concerns continue to mount ahead of the February general elections in the country.
Annan, who chairs the Kofi Annan Foundation, is to visit Nigeria between 12 and 14 January to address a conference on elections being organised by a coalition of Nigerian civil society organisations.

He is expected to deliver the keynote address at the conference, to be held on Tuesday, 13 January in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, based on his work as chairman of the Global Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security and the findings and recommendations of its report: ‘Deepening Democracy: A Strategy for Improving the Integrity of Elections Worldwide’.
“Mr. Annan will meet with a broad range of Nigeria’s civil society organisations, as well as engage the audience in a question and answer session.
“He will also be meeting privately with various national stakeholders engaged in the electoral process,” a statement from the organisers said.
The Kofi Annan Foundation, which Mr Annan chairs, focuses its work on peace and security, sustainable development, human rights and the rule of law with the aim of helping to create a fairer, more secure world.
As part of this work, the foundation promotes impartial and transparent electoral processes through its electoral integrity initiative.
