Youths development my priority — Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed to make youths development his priority if voted into office for second term.

The President gave the assurance when he met with youth leaders in the South-South in Benin -City yesterday. Jonathan, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Youths and Students Affairs, Mr Jude Imagwe, said the federal administration had laid the foundation on youths development in the last four years, adding that the second coming of the President will consolidate on the achievements made so far.

While urging youths to stay out of crime and allow the Federal Government provide the enabling environment for them to excel, the President lamented that youth restiveness in some parts of the country had undermined the accelerate development the nation craved for.

“With the policies and programmes initiated by Jonathan’s administration, there is hope for youths in the country. We have programmes such as YOUWIN, Youth Employment in Agriculture Porgramme and many others. In life, we have every right, as growing people, to get ourselves involve or associated with anything that makes us happy”, he said.

“But in whatever we do, we must realize that in becoming that man you want to be tomorrow, you must stay alive, because the man you want to be tomorrow, if you had died esterday, you certainly ill not have somebody you want to be like. Anoher thing I want to us to understand is to believe in ourselves. A whole lot of us give up on ourseves. We believe we have tried and had failed. None among us today or even among those sitting with us, failed several times yesterday but they refuse to allow their failure deferred who they were.

“Our challenge does not defer who we were but it is our hope that makes us who we are. These challenges will always be there but when this hope is strong, it will give us a reason to identify our challenges.

“Our hope will give us a reason to confront our challenges and our hope will give us the strength to address these challenges and this is what makes us who we are. I advise the students to be careful of what they think and the thought they allow to settle in their minds because an issue that is not addressed today, will certainly disgrace you tomorrow” he said.

He further urged the youths to ensure victory for President Jonathan so as to achieve their aims in life.

  1. What did you do for the youths all through the first four years or should I say 6 years? Nigerian youths can not be deceived again because of 2nd term. We need Change, to fight corruption and non-payment of our salary for 7 months now. Most of the youth are paraded for armed robbery as a result of frustration. Job creation for this administration is on the media.

  2. Which youth is Mr. President talking about? What have you done for them in the last 6 years? In sane society you're expected to be talking of your achievements and commissioning various projects and not sweet talking gullible Nigerian. We voted for to make positive change in our lives but regrettably you make life miserable for us. But no amount of sweet talk we make me and my immediate family vote for a clueless leader like you again.

  4. I am sorry. This president should be ashamed of himself. He thinks he knows how to talk. Same strategy he used for the first term. He is a weak and clueless man. Somebody of his attitude cannot rule Nigeria. This is one of the things that give me reservation for formal president Obasanjo. I wonder how somebody like this can be close to presidency if not Obasanjo's selfish interests. It is sad. What has your government done for the youths in the last 6 years you're made a president. In fact, when I read the president's speeches, I do think the speeches are made by somebody who is not government or who is powerless or clueless. It is very shameful. If Nigerians like, let them vote for him on sentiments and we will all see the results as we have seen in the last 6 years. Even, president Musa Yar Adua of blessed memory performed much more better. People supported him and made his government work simple because they knew he was not corrupt. This president is strange to me. Obasanjo should go to Aso rock and evade him because he put him there. Look at what he did to Obasanjo himself who single handedly imposed him on people. We shall all see.

  6. Focus on Youth Development, is it now or in 2015? Please Mr. President, who is doing this to you? Where is this confusion coming from? I do not understand you at all. Is it now you're just realizing that your focus is youth development. Please Nigerians should vote this man out. This man does not have any good plan for this nation. This is a total disgrace to Nigeria as a whole. As a southern Nigerian, I am totally and deeply dissappointed in our President. Its a total and collossal loss for Nigeria. No wonder nothing is working in this country. I feel ashamed campaining for you, Mr President. Sorry you've just lost my vote

  9. 80% of Nigerian graduates are okada riders. Dotumbo Asari who looks like a cannibal is your chief spokesman. Right there tells the world about you and what you believe in. You reward the corrupt and make friends of thieves. What does that say about you? You must go, so that the country can have a chance to move forward. Your illiterate voters won't save you this time. Even the illiterate now know that you are worthless.
