Why we can’t congratulate PDP governorship candidate Jimi Agbaje – APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress says it will not congratulate the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, because the events that led to his victory were allegedly dubious.

The publicity secretary of the party, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said the PDP was a party of hypocrites because they were doing the same thing they had accused the APC of doing in the past.

The APC wondered how the number of votes could exceed the number of delegates that voted at the primary on Monday.

The APC said it was unfortunate that the PDP could not properly conduct a primary of less than 1,000 delegates when it (APC) successfully conducted a primary that had over 5,000 delegates in attendance last week.

It said the PDP had shown that it was not democratic as it went ahead to impose Agbaje despite the fact that another aspirant, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, had been making allegations about the plan for over a month.

The APC said, “We cannot congratulate Agbaje yet because there is still infighting. The circumstances that led to the emergence of Agbaje were illegitimate and as a democratic party we will not encourage such by congratulating him.

“You see how clear it was with our candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode. The body language of the PDP leaders had shown that they were supporting Agbaje and they went ahead to perpetrate fraud just as Obanikoro had predicted.”

When asked if the APC would be willing to receive Obanikoro if he defected from the PDP, the party said, “Obanikoro knows the best step that will favour him. If he feels his 10 years away from our party is regretful, he is free to return, we cannot reject him.”

In a later statement, the party also welcomed the over 8,000 delegates from all over the country that would participate in the presidential primary of the party on Wednesday (today).

  2. It is the business of PDP to resolve their internal problem. A Yoruba adage said "E pe were loko iyawo, ko le je ka ri ona lo". Literarily translated as Dignify a mad person to prevent his attack. Pls congratulate Jimi Agbaje even though, he is less than 6 months as a PDP card carrying member.

  7. What is Mr. Igbokwe saying here; that APC is decent? Pls save ur dirty analysis for infants. We all know why APC aspirants in Lagos are quiet: they may lose their lives if they dare protest openly. Obanikoro can protest openly because the PDP is not owned by one man or a cabal, although they are all thieves but they will not take life so easy like the APC. Here one of the APC apsirants in Lagos after the APC primaries:
Barrister Tokunbo Wahab along with ten other aspirants has expressed his displeasure about the manner in which the governorship primaries which took place today at Onikan have been conducted‎.

The primary election and the process that goes with it were shrouded in secrecy and unprecedented bare-faced irregularities. In the words of the aspirant, if APC, a party in the fore front of the Change Movement could subject itself to a shoddy, suspicious preparation, what then is the moral justification for blaming INEC regarding the flop in the Voter Registration and PVC distribution in Lagos State?

He stated emphatically that his position and that of the 10 aspirants have been consistent in the last few weeks from various consultative meetings. These include:
    - Provision of adequate notice should be given to all aspirants prior to the primaries as provided by party and INEC constitutions and

    - that delegates' list should be provided to all well before time as well.

He said, *my agent did not receive the so-called list until early hours of this morning‎*. As at today, even as the charade referred to as Primaries was going on, it was not clear if we were using the 20 LGAs or 57LGA and LCDAs.

"We made our position known to the national leadership yesterday and we only attended today to observe and possess proofs of various ‎irregularities."

"I can say categorically, that what happened today was not a primary but a pre-orchestrated drama. We shall be making our positions known to the party and INEC within the next few hours and we shall pursue this to a logical, legal conclusion."
