The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress says it created conducive environment for the Igbos in the state to thrive.
The party therefore called on the Igbos in the state not to be used by politicians who were using tribal sentiments to woo voters ahead of the 2015 elections.
The party said this in a statement by its publicity secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, while reacting to claims by a group, Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria, that the Igbos in Lagos were being marginalised in the politics of the state.
The APC said, “Ndigbo controls commerce in Lagos. From Ladipo Market to Tejuosho, Oshodi to Alaba, Trade Fair Complex to Oduade market, from Idumota to Balogun, just to mention a few of them.
“In politics, the Igbos are also being represented at all levels of government from the wards to the local and state levels.
“Ben Akabueze has been the Commissioner for Budget and Planning for nearly 10 years and the weight of that office is well known to those who should know better. Joe Igbokwe sits as the General Manager, Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency and also the head of Urban Furniture Regulatory Unit and APC Publicity Secretary Lagos and these are strategic offices and six Igbos are fully employed at LASIMRA.
“Justice Sybil Nwaka is an Igbo is in the Lagos judiciary. There was the late Mrs Ngozi Mofuanya, a director of Public Prosecution; there are also Igbo lawyers who are thoroughly enjoying themselves in the Ministry of Justice in Lagos. There is also countless number of Ndigbo in top positions in the Lagos State ministries, especially in the Ministry of Education.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

How does your positions affect ordinary Igbos in Lagos? Is it not for your personal pockets?
ReplyDeleteYou are a sellout. What of all the markets Fashola burnt down? What of the deported ones? What of those okada riders whose means of livelihood were destroyed? What of the huge taxes on markets, toll gates, offices, manufacturing companies, academic institutions etc. What of the comments that Ibos can go back to the east? what of....... the list is endless.
ReplyDeleteYou Igbos can never be satisfied with anything. Where in any state in the east do you have a non indigene hold any position in Government? or do you have Yorubas or Hausas in the civil service in large numbers like you have in Lagos and indeed the whole of the south west?
ReplyDeleteIs it until we give you the government house that you will be satisfied?
The market Fashola shut down were Igbos the only ones in these markets? Was it not for the good of the state that these markets were rebuilt? You want Lagos to remain a jungle state abi? NEVER!
The people deported - Has it not been proven, even in court that these people were not deported and that the affected state govt was even more culpable?
Okadas being banned on some roads - Was there even a Ban or Restrictions on certain roads. By way have the roads not been safer since okadas were restricted from these roads. Have okadas not been restricted in some eastern states too?
