Vote me in 2015, And I promise not to let you down - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has promised not to let Nigerians down as he begins the campaign for the 2015 general elections.

The President said this in his acceptance speech after he was ratified as the presidential candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party at the party’s special convention which ended in the early hours of Thursday in Abuja.

He told the delegates that having placed great faith in him and chosen him as the party’s presidential candidate, he would not fail them.

The jubilant President said, “I assure you, that I am truly honoured tonight, to lead another electoral contest. This will be a campaign, and an election, that will serve to consolidate our successes.

“I will give my all. I will not let you down. I will not fail the PDP. I will not fail you. Above all, I promise, I will not fail our great nation, Nigeria.”

He said that the success recorded during the convention was an indication that the party was ready for the elections.

“The PDP is ready. Nigerians know we are ready. And today in Abuja, we begin the next phase of our mission. Our mission is to secure Nigeria’s future,” the president said.

The President was full of thanks to God Almighty, who he said has sustained the nation.

He nevertheless expressed his gratitude to his deputy, Namadi Sambo, who he described as “my brother” and his wife, saying both have provided loyal support and commitment to the regime.
He said working with them has been a pleasure for him.

He also added that the success recorded during his regime would not have been possible without members of his team, which included Ministers, Advisers, Assistants and other members of staff that he said had formed the Transformation team.

President Jonathan said he was aware that the contest will be stiff between him and the opposition, but he charged the members of the ruling party to remain focused.

He, therefore, said he was commissioning all delegates and party faithful, as his campaign mobilizers, and charged them to take his message of unity and development back to their respective states and communities, and to ensure victory for all candidates of the PDP in the forthcoming elections.

He said, “Our political opponents shall assail us with the fury of their desperation to win power. They will use every means – intimidation, false accusations, hostile media and more.

“Do not descend to their level. We must stay focused on the mission at hand – to secure Nigeria’s future.”

Before announcing Sambo as his running mate, the President invited some leaders of the party, including his wife, Patience to the podium.

Those he invited were the Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu; the Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih; the Senate President, Senator David Mark and his wife, and Sambo and his wife.

It was after these set of people mounted the podium with him that he now said, “ I seize the opportunity of this occasion to formally announce that as we commence the campaign for the 2015 Presidential elections, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, a loyal and tested partner, a dependable, trustworthy gentleman and a true patriot will be my running mate and Vice Presidential candidate once again.”

    1. You will be disappointed (you disguise as an alias but definitely you are an Igbo man of course!) in 2015. As Buhari is set to make the needed change from Clueless, Rudderless and incompetent ruler to a more purposeful and visionary leadership. You and your ilk should just wait and observe the unfolding events from this moment onward instead on spitting junk

    4. Please stop calling Matosky an igbo man and leave Ndi Igbo alone, are you a tribalist? If you are then you are not a true follower of Buhari because he is not one. This is no time for tribal politics, we are here for the Nigerian agenda which is good governance and the answer is BUHARI. Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Rivers, Bayelsa, Christians, Muslims, Atheists, Buhari is a very neutral person so please vote him. I am Anglican like Jona but God forbid he continues. I care too much for this country and the future of our children to want this monumental evil and corruption to continue. God help us and give us BUHARI

  9. Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, it is pity that you had exhausted your promise. Last time you promised fresh air and breath, 4 years down the line, nothing to show for that. You said you had no shoes, today you are one of the richest African President, even when it was published, you threatened court actio. In 2011, you deceitfully made us believe you were humble. We never knew you were a devil in human skin. Please Mr. Jonathan, why wont you earn yourself some honour and respect by telling Nigerians that this job os too much for you and bow out? You have really dealt with this country Mr. Jonathan.

  11. Everybody in Nigeria knows that you failed us but some people are surporting you just because of sentiments, but in their minds they really know you don't have charisma. Nobody can boast of one good thing you have done for Nigerian youths but some are still following you like idiot out of sentiments. You are a disappointment. I know you must rig this election to remain in power but I all know that 4 years term will still come and pass, then everybody will start saying GEJ has kill us. You will never change GEJ in so far as you still surround yourself with those sycophants and praisesingers, you will still remain the same. Left for me you are not good for Nigeria but God knows the best, let the will of God be done. All I know is that, that 4 years term will still come and pass, nothing last forever.
Again I want to say all that as long as you are there, insurgency will never end.

  15. Very funny that we Nigerians are so baised and tribalistic that we do not hope for this country to move forward.GEJ has used 6 good yrs and have nothing to show. The commmon nigerian is suffering in poverty and corruption is getting to be a normal thing. And you still want to to give same person upportunity? How about trying someone else out.....GEJ doesnt have anything to offer apart from corruption....Please lets give anyother person a chance. Its unfortunate that it Buhari, but we cant just stick with GEJ abeg.

  18. I think President Jonathan should cover his face for this great disappointment to Nigerians, haven used the first term to gather for himself all our shoes and still got the gut to ask for my coperation to gather to himself again all our clothes so that we can all walk naked even without shoes to cushion the effect.

  20. This is the time for change. Nigerians should vote wisely. GEJ has got nothing to show in 6 years. Insecurity is at its peak. Kidnapping is booming. Corruption has no rival. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Clueless man sorrounded by thieves. Now he is planning to spend billions on stove, where is the kerosene? Akuri.
