Winners have emerged in the Peoples Democratic Party’s primaries held in Ekiti State on Sunday.
They are Mr. Duro Faseyi for Ekiti North Senatorial District, Mrs. Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, Ekiti Central while a former Deputy Governor, Mrs. Abiodun Olujinmi, won the Ekiti South ticket.
For the House of Representatives, Segun Adekola won Ekiti South 1; Akin Awodumila, Ekiti South 2; Ayodeji Oladimeji, Ekiti-Central 1; Olamide J. Oni, Ekiti Central 2; Kehinde Agboola – Ekiti North 1 and Thaddeous Aina, Ekiti-North.
But one of the aspirants for the Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Mr. Lateef Ajijola, has accused the party of snatching his ticket for Mrs. Raji-Rasaki.
Ajijola claimed that his victory was upturned by the party after the returning Officer, Mr. Segun Akinwunmi, and the Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi, had duly declared him the winner having polled 108 in the primaries to Mrs. Raji-Rasaki who scored 80.
“After declaring me the winner, I asked for documentary evidence. They told me the result would be given to me at the state party secretariat. On getting to the party secretariat, the place was locked.
“The electoral guideline of the party says the election is invalid if the result is not properly filled and delivered. The primary took place in a peaceful atmosphere but the result was not given.
“The primary went peacefully without complaint from any of the aspirants. Of the 219 delegates, 216 were accredited and three were absent.
“If there was over-voting, you cannot remove it from the results of a particular aspirant. The discrepancy was discovered after the results had been declared and we have left the venue.”
But Ajayi denied declaring Ajijola the winner.
He said, “Our duty is to conduct the election and report to the headquarters. The report was that Fatima’s emerged the winner; she scored the highest lawful vote.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
