Plateau PDP delegates fight over ballot box labels

A free for all broke out on Monday before the commencement of voting at the Rwang Pam Stadium, venue of the Plateau State Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary.

The problem arose from the insistence of some aspirants that labels, bearing each local government names, be removed from the ballot boxes.

They protested that some local delegates were under threat from the state government that if they did not vote for a government’s aspirant, they would be dealt with alongside their local government chairmen.

However some other agents said it was good to have the local government labels on the ballot boxes so that it would be easy to properly confirm if the number of delegates conform with the number of votes cast by each of the local governments to avoid possible manipulation.

After the initial fracas was controlled by security personnel, the Chairman of the electoral panel, Alhaji Abdulahi Ohioma, ruled that all the labels from the ballot boxes be removed.

The labels were immediately removed and the election started with Wase Local Government delegates.
