PICTURES: The shocking and deplorable road condition in Rumuolumeni

The deplorable state of the roads in Rumuolumeni community has been a big source of pain and embarrassment despite being host to Saipem, Eagle cement, Green Aker, NNF Pathfinder (a Navy Ship base), Master energy and about 24 other companies.

NigerianEye learnt that over time the youths have protested, but it seems certain individuals are settled and it gets to business as usual. The government awarded the contract for the construction of Iwofe road to MCC but it seems there is more to it than meet the eyes.

The deplorable state of the roads has affected businesses in the communities. Motorist have been lamenting over the pains of driving in and around the community.

It has been much difficult during the rains as vehicles whether new or old break down upon passing through the waters and vehicles that are low have had under their cars scrapped off. If you own a car you would understand better what is going on.

Some of the protesters and residents wonder why the government would collect taxes from the companies and individuals yet abandon their responsibility to the people. They say if the governor knows he can’t do his duties then he should resign and leave it for those ready to work. Some residents however blamed members of the communities that have been collecting money from the companies only to pocket it and fill the roads with sands.

Rumuolumeni surrounded by water is one of the largest communities in Obio Akpor Local government area and Nigeria, and one of the highest revenue producing community.

Earlier in the year, the traditional council of Akpor kingdom openly protested the bad state of roads in all its kingdom despite the fact that the State Governor Rt Honourable Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is an Ikwerre man. Some persons believe the crisis between the Governor and Nyesom Wike whose community leads to Rumuolumeni and has a large followership there must have been part of why the state government has abandoned Rumuolumeni.

Over time the roads the roads have gone from worst to something that only your eyes can describe.

  1. This is the road that leads to the industrial hub (Rumuolumeni, to trans ƀmadi industrial layout) in Port-Harcourt. Maybe, we should start using boat on this artifical water way
