Twelve out of the 16 aspirants that lost the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary have petitioned the national secretariat of the party, rejecting the outcome of party election to select the candidate for the 2015 governorship poll in the state.
They alleged that the process was flawed and highly undemocratic and did not conform with the electoral law.
At a press briefing in Jos on Wednesday, the defeated aspirants said they might not predict the outcome of the general elections if the election that produced Mr. Gyang Pwajok as the party’s governorship candidate was not rectified.
The aspirants, who were physically present at the briefing, are former governor Fidelis Tapgun, Dr. Haruna Dabin, Prof. Sonny Tyoden, Senator Victor Lar, Mr. John Alkali and Mr. Chris Bature,
In the text of the briefing, read by Tapgun, the aspirants said the outgoing governor Jonah Jang, in his desire to entrench a dynasty, expended huge sums of state resources to ensure that his anointed candidate won the primary.
The aspirants said the delegate list was manipulated with while electoral committee refused to heed all complaints from them.
They also alleged that the accreditation process was violated as it was conducted at three different locations for each of the senatorial zones when the primary out to be held at Rwang Pam Stadium.
While urging the appeal panel to jettison the result for the interest of the party, the aspirant also alleged that the time for the accreditation unduly extended, allowing the government the opportunity to manipulate the entire process in favour of its candidate.
The statement read, “At the centre of this brewing crisis is the unwholesome and an ungodly desire by the outgoing governor – Dr. Jonah Jang – who, in a brutish manner, is attempting to install a successor, which by implicatio,n will mean enthroning a family and a tribal oligarchy, which will establish a perpetual Jang dynasty.
“What is strongly alleged throughout the venues for the primates was the amount that were expended by candidates sponsored by government while pastoral emoluments of civil servants have not been paid for months and business of governance has virtually been grounded.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
