President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday accused elderly Nigerians of troubling the country as a result of their utterances and behaviours.
The President said that it was the young Nigerians that had continually brought glory to the nation.
He particularly berated old politicians in the country, who he said caused trouble by quarrelling and abusing one another.
Jonathan spoke during the official inauguration of the Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme and the Fund for Agricultural Finance in Nigeria which held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said, “For the Nigerian young men and women, those who we have seen today and the ones outside there, we appreciate and commend you because anything that you are involved, you bring glory to this country.
“Anything that the old people like us are involved in, it is always problems.
“Young people are involved in sports, soccer, athletics and so on, and within the period that I have been here as Vice President and President, they have always been bringing glory to us.
“Young people are involved in the movie, popularly called Nollywood, and this continues to bring glory to us.
“Young people are involved in music, like D-Banj, and they always continue to bring glory to us.
“But see politics that old people like us are involved in, we continue to quarrel and abuse ourselves everyday and create problems for innocent Nigerians.
“So, we believe that the future of this country is in the hands of young people. The young Nigerians will surely take us to where we want to be.
“One day, you will take us to the moon. I believe in the young, creative and talented people. Surely, we will create enabling environment for you because you stand for the future of this country and you will make this country great.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Oga Jona, you are not living by example.....You should have allow a young chap btwn 35 & 45 yrs age bracket to run for presidency in your party since old people like you are given Nigerians nothing but calamities.... I'm looking forward to see you step down for a younger nigerian if you truly love this country....
ReplyDeleteWhen are we assuming our position? You said we are the 'leaders of tomorrow ' when will tomorrow come? It will be good if age limit of political participation is set between 13 and 70
ReplyDeleteOld Men like Edwin Clark.
ReplyDeleteOld Men like Edwin Clark.
ReplyDeleteThis government knew that they have done nothing but they want to use the ideology that have always worked in politics I.e playing mind games with everybody at their grasp ,
ReplyDeleteDoyin Okukpe is calling his boss Nigerian Jesus and calling the next Nigerian president religious bigot .
Okonjo Iwuala is always giving excuses about the economy index in the country.
But to me the worst of them all is Ruben Abati who will always want us to go to the dream land with him to see the things we could not see in this real life about Jonathan's Presidency.
To be cursed by the devil is to be truly blessed. It means the devil is feeling the heat. For Abati in defense of President Jonathan to have masterfully turned the criticisms of his boss into a cause and curse; then Mr. Jonathan must be having some nightmare at Aso Rock. Good for him!
How a person deals with the circumstances of life tells you many things about his character.
Circumstances do not necessarily make character, but it certainly reveals it. A pot of porridge and a cake of akara make a person choose one of two paths: character or compromise. In the case of Abati, he chose a port of porridge and thus compromised all he’s known for as a writer and
critic.
The vitriolic attack on Nigerians who questioned the ineptitude of their president by Abati is a classical example of men in position of power but with little character or wisdom. He represents the administration’s poster boy for hypocrisy and hyperbole.
That we criticize the president doesn’t mean we hate him. Even if we do, Mr. Jonathan and his image makers should see it as an opportunity to wake up, shape up, and perform because it is possible to learn from enemy things we can’t learn from our friends.
Now I ask Can’t we criticize the president for a bloated federal bureaucracy? Can’t we advocate that the rule of law is upheld? That we need a constitution by the people for the people? That the president should provide shoes for the shoeless, Food for the hungry? Home for the homeless? That his wasteful administration is trimmed and pruned? Can’t we…? Can’t we..? Can’t
we…?
What happened to the pile of corruption reports
involving Halliburton, Siemens, Wilbros, the
petroleum ministry, and the ministry of foreign
affairs among others; that have gathered dust on Mr. Jonathan’s desk?
Mr. Jonathan has failed to honor his campaign promises On job creation and he want to continue, what a shame. And lastly, the one time shoeless Mr. Jonathan ordered three new executive jets as soon as he became president.
And for me Nigerians still persuade in spite of all those defense from his dog alike ministers that Jonathan’s administration is tyrannical, oppressive, insensitive, anti-democratic, wasteful, irrelevant, corrupt, inhumane,
and spineless. And for having the audacity to blame us for exercising our democratic right in criticizing the president, you’re guilty of self-indulgence of an intellectual.
Kubi Ben SA.
well said my brother, well said. I believe that deep in their minds they know they are on the wrong side of everything this nation should stand for. As for R. Abati, he can gloat in the new cloak that has been given to him; but he should know that he will always come back to the 'people'...Dr. Doyin Okupe can revel himself in his position as the chief propaganda minister; what goes around comes around...only time will tell.
Delete4 SURE U MAKE SENCE
ReplyDeleteKeep fooling yourself. Old people like Edwin Clark and yourself.
ReplyDeleteThat was our believe when we voted you IN in 2011 thinking that you are young and probably the messiah we've been waiting for. Your regime is worst than that of OBJ the old man even try a bit, what have you done so far that one can honestly point to? Yet you keep on lying to an hungry Nigeria that their stomach is filled, who owns the stomach ? You or us? If we are ok we should know, telling us Nigeria is doing well, when in reality reverse is the case. Am happy you acknowledged that you have caused us problem.
ReplyDeleteIf old people has a resnable idea than.the young then let him try his own oga jona you one of old people if u don't know.
ReplyDeletewhen a man said he is wrong then he has accepted hs mistake just as bush came out and admited that the US when to iraq on wrong information .when a person accepted resposibility for good or bad then he is a better leader ..amoung all former leaders whom have come out openly when he is still in power and accepted his mistakes
ReplyDeleteYes Mr. President. Old people like EC Clarke, Tony Anenhni, Jerry Ghana and yourself.
ReplyDeleteI discovered that those against jona are more in nigerianeye platform. U only make us to believe that jona will not win election here, but u will be surprised by 2015. GMB will fail woefully even in his hometown katsina just watch.
ReplyDeleteDon't mind the idiots, they are all Aboki's with there stupid born to rule mentality......they will cry till 2019........They hav only 2 options, either GEJ or no Nigeria....but they wouldn't take the 2nd option because they are all afraid of it..........idiots
DeleteWe are everywhere as Jonathan doesn't have any campaign issue or platform. Its only brainwashed fools like you that identify with failure. We have taken over all the platforms and we are calling your bluff. Nigeria is ours and we are many enough to cook and finish all of you for breakfast.
Delete@Anonymous 12:45pm: U beta go nd cure dat malaria in u.
ReplyDeleteyou guys should let us divide this country! why are people will pick a knife and slaughter fellow human being? Boko haram don't want education they are using machine gun, all manner of sophisticated weapons? some say they are born to rule they don't want anyone from niger delter or Igbo people as a president why only Hausa and Yoruba IBO is bad or not Nigeria? and they busy figting a fortunate man like GEJ! this is too bad.
ReplyDeleteMy Friend stop fooling yourself, even in your home GMB will win February election by God gress
ReplyDeleteYou are just a clueless man. Do justice on them
ReplyDeleteGuys any one who have not watched jonathan lie detecting machine on youtube need to do so as the guy really deserve the kind slap that can remove his head, bunch of lieres......one person on this forum wrote well by advising jonathan to step down for a younger person if he really believe that.....
ReplyDeleteIts now the guy know se dem de fight and insult one another instead of moving nigeria forward, yet 55% of our entire resources goes into these people's pocket as salary apart from stolen money, self awarded contracts and bribes inhouse and exhouse.
A country where 80% of university graduates remain jobless, is in a big mess When a university graduates becomes an okada operator, that is an indisputable index that there is trouble. Go into any Nigerian city and you will see young men roaming about aimlessly. That is the real index of the ugly situation in the country, not the finance minister telling you that you are the biggest economy in the continent. When 200,000 people are applying for 200 positions in customs & immigration with several persishing trying to get into the exam venue, that is the real index of trouble. Behind all this is corruption, corruption, corruption in all government circles! That is the real index of trouble, my friends!! Let's stop fooling ourselves.
ReplyDeleteRome was not built in a day. For many years this country has been facing alot of things from unemployment to poverty, infrastructure, terrorist and this man Gej did not create any of them rather when he is trying to repair them those who created them won't let him bcos they wanr ro rule by force and they frustrate his efforts. I don't know the problem of all of you against this man. Change we need cannot come automatic considering the rate of damage the country is now. If you have ever been a leader of any kind before then u will know it's not easy. Experience is the best teacher. Why don't you guys leave this man to complete his job bcos he just started. Buhari did not bring change before and is it now that he is going to bring change? When someone speak to encourage the youth you guys critisize that person or do u want him to come to ur house and give u money before you know he is working. U guys should watch your mouth bcos the seed u sow will revert back to u.
ReplyDeleteA country where graduates are not innovative and creative but only to blaime the Government that almost give them free education in the university for their failures in life. Where in the world did goverment employed 80 percent of its population. Iam from the north and i believe GEJ is the best President for Nigeria and surely Buhari will cry again. Solutions to our problem lies within us, we can have peace if we choose to. Goodluck was not there when the problem started, we start by ourselves and we are the only one to stop it. God bless Nigeria
ReplyDeleteMr. President, it is too late for you. Leave Aso Rock and allow others to come.
ReplyDeleteIs it now you remember "Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme and the Fund for Agricultural Finance" in Nigeria?
For 6 good years, you forgot that Agriculture should be made the backbone of our economy in Nigeria. All these bold faces mean you had nothing to offer the country before you were fixed in as the President.
Finally, it is very wrong accusing old people of causing troubles in Nigeria. Were not the ones that fought for our independent? Those fathers and mothers of this great country had the interests of Nigeria and Nigerians in mind. They joined politics to serve the nation. Your groups joined the game to be served.
In short, leave us alone. Almighty God will give us those that will fix the country for us
First off there is no need of criticising jst 1 man truly d old 1s have failed countless u dat say our fathers who fought 4 independence are old dey were nt old dey were in their prime d great Zik was in his late fifties wen he became d first president of Nigeria so u can say he was in hi early thirties wen he started fighting 4 our independence nw all dis present crop of politicians d pro-millitary era are all corrupt selfish heartless beast who possess no conscience or so ever starting 4rm d president nd his cabinet crews d opposition party tinubu nd co are all disgrace 2 humanity as a whole blood of thousands millions are on their hands yet dey dnt care nd yet we jst make 1 d culprit wen all are culprits a time will surely cum wen A MAN will embark on a personal vandetta against dis beasts of humanity nd erase dem completely 4rm d face of d earth leaving no trace of their existence on earth yes GEJ has done outrageous tins so has d odas b4 him GMB d apc candidate dnt 4get was once a millitary leader nd wat did he acheive nting he did nt give anytin 2 Nigeria in his prime den wat is he hoping 2 offer nw he has jst 10 years or so on earth a man who has walked d earth 4 72 yrs wat is left of him. d senators reps all lawmakers are all guilty so all we can do is 2 pray 4 dat messiah who is going 2 cum nd make tins rite 2 right all wrongs nd put a smile on d face of even d least Nigerian nt 2 argue over an already spilled milk a time is surely cuming wen a MAN is going 2 correct all dis wrongs we all shld jst pray
