Just like last year, NigerianEYE again put together their Top 10 outrageous quotes of the year..

These quotes were drafted from some important Nigerian individuals who provided controversial news head-liners which went on to trend for so many days, weeks and even months.

Here is the list of the worst 10 quotes of the year 2014 in descending order.

10)  'President Jonathan has already won the 2015 Presidential election' - Asari Dokubo

9) 'A ceasefire agreement has been concluded between the federal government and Boko Haram.' - Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh

The 'Good News'  was announced by the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, who stated

“Without any prejudice to the outcome of our three days interactions and the conclusion of this forum, I wish to inform this audience that a ceasefire agreement has been concluded between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Ahlul Sunna Li Dawaa Wal Jihad (Boko Haram).

“I have accordingly directed the service chiefs to ensure immediate compliance with this development in the field.’’

The army spokesperson, Maj.-Gen Chris Olukolade, also said that the directive to the service chiefs had gone to the field and that it would be adhered to immediately.

However many doubted the cease-fire deal as the Boko Haram sect continued attacking different Nigerian territories.

It was not until the leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau, appeared in a video two weeks later in his usual fashion, and denied the ceasefire deal.

"We have not made ceasefire with anyone. What is our business with negotiation? We did not negotiate with anyone... It's a lie; it's a lie. We will not negotiate," he said in a video released on October 31.

8) 'If Nigeria breaks, some people in the country would have no where to run to, but for me and my people in Adamawa Kingdom, we will pack our luggage and whatever we have and join our kith and kin in Cameroun' - Lamido of Adamawa

The Lamido of Adamawa who is one of the thirteen persons and number three on the list of traditional rulers representing the group tagged, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, also said before the very eyes of other 491 delegates, 6 officers of the Conference and Journalists that he was also ready to lead his people on a walk-out from the conference

7) I take responsibility for the tragic death of 16 job applicants - Abba Moro

About a week after blaming doctors, lawyers, teachers for the NIS stampede and tragic death of job applicants , Minister of interior, Abba Moro said "I take responsibility for the tragic death of 16 job applicants"

It can be recalled that the Interior Minister, Abba Moro initially blamed the stampede at the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment centres on doctors, nurses, bankers, teachers and others in paid employment.

According to him, these already employed individuals thronged the various recruitment centres in their numbers.

Moro said though these categories of persons never applied for jobs with the NIS, they gate-crashed into the venues of the recruitment, with the hope of getting foreign postings and being pensionable if employed by the NIS.

In his words “It’s odd that many of those who turned up included employed bankers, engineers, medical doctors, nurses, teachers and others who wanted to cross over to the Immigration Services at all costs.

6) 'We have rescued all 129 Chibok girls, except 8' - Major-General Chris Olukolade

On the 16th of April, 2014, The Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade announced the rescue of “all 129 girls” except 8.

Even the number 129 is false. The correct number was 276 abducted. 57 escaped through their self-effort. 219 Chibok girls are still missing

Major-General Chris Olukolade, the Defense Ministry spokesman, however the next day retracted his statement, which he said had been based on a field report indicating "a major breakthrough".

He added: "There is indeed no reason to play politics with the precious lives of the students. The number of those still missing is not the issue now as the life of every Nigerian is very precious."

5) I scaled National Assembly Gate to Save Our Democracy – Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila

Femi Gbajabiamila, House of Representatives Minority Leader, was one of the lawmakers who scaled the National Assembly gate during the pandemonium that took place at the premises last month.

Speaking on the incident via a statement signed by his research and media assistant, Gbajabiamila stated that he climbed over the gate to save democracy.

'What happened in the National Assembly yesterday will forever live in infamy. I never thought I would see the day when I would be forced to go over the assembly gates where I work to gain access into the chambers. But then our democracy has to be saved…

It was pretty clear the presidency in spite of a court injunction wanted to do something sinister and illegal.

They perfected the plot to stop the Speaker and the opposition leader from gaining entry. My members were already in chambers waiting for me to come in so as to provide leadership and direction. Most of them had gone over the gate too. I had to do the needful to save our democracy. We thank God we foiled their evil machinations. We will continue to be vigilant.'

4) 'You are a houseboy and a cultist' - Femi Fani-Kayode to Governor Amaechi

In a facebook post titled “THE POT-BELLIED CREEK HARAMITE AND HIS DIRECT THREAT”,Femi Fani-Kayode slammed Governor Amaechi calling a houseboy and a cultist.

He stated

'It is time for the President to take off the kid gloves and put this pot-bellied little monkey in his place. Once a houseboy, always a houseboy. Once a cult member always a cult member. Once a peasant, always a peasant.

If Rotimi and his Haramite friends are looking for trouble then we should give it to them in full measure. It would be a pleasure. Anytime a cockroach shows it's head it ought to be crushed'

3) 'Stealing is not corruption' - President Goodluck Jonathan

Nigeria is regarded as one of the most corrupt nations in the world. This should be no news but, what is however news is when this particular statement was credited to the Nation’s Commander-in-Chief, President Goodluck Jonathan that “There is no corruption but mere stealing in Nigeria” during a Presidential Media Chat.

That statement was not only alarming, upsetting and disquieting. It was simply terrifying. I tried finding an excuse for the President, but to no avail. Let's give it to him that he meant to say something different. Are we not too generous here?

Back to the subject matter, maybe the President was right after all. But come to think of it, what is the difference between corruption and stealing? Are they not the same?

Are they? Maybe the English Dictionary can help us out. Stealing “simply means to take something that belongs to someone else illegally or without the owner’s permission”. While “corruption refers to dishonest exploitation of power/resources for personal gain”. The underlying meaning in both words is dishonest acquisition.

Tiff na Tiff, simple.

2) 'President Jonathan is like Jesus Christ' - Doyin Okupe

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe also faced severe criticism for comparing President Goodluck Jonathan with Jesus Christ.

Speaking during a live breakfast show on Channels Television, the presidential aide said Jonathan had borne the nation’s problems and woes on his shoulders in the same way that Jesus Christ had always carried the burden of Christians all over the world.

“There are political issues. People do not understand the burden this particular President is bearing. He is like Jesus Christ. He (Jonathan) is bearing the burden of everybody.”

1) 'There is God o!... Na only you waka come' - Patience Jonathan

And of course this list cannot be complete without the famous “There is God o!... Na only you waka come?”  quote by the Nigerian First lady.

Nigerians designed viral video edits on Facebook, Twitter and instagram with images including T-shirts and caricature of wife of the Nigerian President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, to mock her for speaking pidgin English while addressing Mrs Asabe Aliyu Kwarmbula, the Principal of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State over the abducted 234 students of the school at a press briefing.

Principal… na only you waka come okay, when the first lady is calling you, come I want to help you, I want to help you find your missing child, will you keep quiet? Chai, chai, chai there is God o, the blood we’re sharing, there is God o, there is God o…!” she said, bursting into tears.
