Lagos PDP gov primaries: Obanikoro petitions PDP, wants Agbaje’s victory voided

Former Minister of State for Defence and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Lagos state, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has petitioned the leadership of the party, urging it to declare the victory of Olujimi Agbaje at the governorship primaries, as null and void.

He submitted that the election won by Agbaje violated the constitution of the party.

In the petition addressed to the Chairman, Gubernatorial Electoral Appeal Panel, Obanikoro pointed out that accreditation of delegates for the election started at about 6:45pm contrary to section 19 sub section (d) of the PDP Election Guidelines which provided that accreditation shall be between 8am and 12noon. He argued that many delegates left the venue frustrated and were thus disenfranchised.
Senator Obanikoro added that the number of vote cast was more than the accredited delegates.

The petition reads in part, “That at the conclusion of accreditation, the total number of delegates who were eligible to vote was 806 (eight hundred and six). And this figure was announced loudly to the hearing of all that were present in the hall, thereby complying with Section 19 Subsection (e) of the PDP Electoral Guidelines. That at the conclusion of voting the total number of votes cast was 863 (eight hundred and sixty three) which established over voting.”

He argued that this is contrary to Section 19 Subsection (m) of the PDP Electoral Guidelines which stipulates that “no delegate shall vote for more than one aspirant and were the votes exceed the number of accredited delegates to such an extent as to materially affect the result of the election, the election shall be declared void by the State Electoral Panel and another Vote shall be conducted by the State Electoral Panel.”

    1. Who says we lagosian are tired of APC? We not have anything against Jimi, but we are not tired of the development we've enjoyed with the administration of APC. What we are tired of is the PDP lead government which has done nothing to improve the society.

  3. It is an important point raised by Koro in his petition, but the Section 19 Subsection (m) of the PDP Electoral Guidelines on which he premised his case had really in practical sense nullify his case. This is because the votes cast (863) actually exceeded the total accredited numbers (803), but not materially affected the result of the election. It is pertinent to note the results announced as follows: Agbaje-432, Obanikoro-346, TKO-46, BOG-21 and Doherty-21.
If the margin between Agbaje-432 and Koro-346 = 86, whereby the bloated votes which is 57 is supposedly added to Koro's 346 (i.e. 346+57 = 403), it follows that Agbaje's 432 - Koro's 403 resulted into a margin of 29 votes greater than Koro's 403. Alternatively, we may safely say that the bloated votes of 57 be deducted from Agbaje's vote (i.e. 432 - 57 = 375) which shows that Agbaje's votes of 375 is still greater than the Koro's earned votes of 346.
Obanikoro should note that the bloated votes he was complaining could as well have been shared by all the contestants or better still being part of his earned votes.
Obanikoro, in as much as I respect you as a good and dogged fighter, my sincere advice to you is to sheathe your sword, leave the fight for another time, support the Party's Flag Bearer - Jinmi Agbaje and collapsed your vibrant campaign arsenal into the Party for the utmost aim of the Party winning the forthcoming elections in Lagos State.
Let's join hands together to bake a bigger cake that will be beneficial to all residents (young, old, females, males, students, traders, artisans, professionals) of the state.
Secondly, Obanikoro should endeavour not only to accept defeat, but should be seen joining forces with Jinmi and more importantly to be evidenced with a sounding results enough to dislodge the APC in the state, then my amiable Obanikoro will be able to bounce back and prepare himself for the next Jonathan' s cabinet. Jonathan needs you more in Abuja than Lagos. A word is enough for the wise.
