Jonathan celebrates Christmas in Abuja

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday joined Christians to celebrate Christmas in a service held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Maitama, Abuja.

He was accompanied to the service by his wife, Patience; his mother, Eunice, top government officials including ministers and other members of the Federal Executive Council.

In a short remark, the President urged politicians to watch their utterances ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The Old Testament reading for the service was taken by the President’s wife from Isaiah 9:2,6 and 7 while the President read the Epistle from Hebrews 1:1-12.

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, in his sermon titled “The Jewish messianic expectations and 2015 elections,” taken from Isaiah 61 urged those who seek political offices at all levels to be aware that Nigerians have huge expectations from them.

He said their decisions, when they finally get the positions they are seeking, should be guided by such expectations.

He further urged them to be concerned about the total wellbeing of the people.
