The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbeje, on Saturday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to repeat the registration for Permanent Voter Card in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Agbaje made the appeal at an endorsement rally organised by support groups for President Goodluck Jonathan and Agbaje.
Complaints had continued to trail the PVC distribution and the registration of fresh voters by INEC in Lagos.
INEC had said no Nigerian of voting age would be left out of the process of obtaining the PVCs for 2015.
Agbaje, however, said INEC must act swiftly to ensure that those who were still complaining were attended to.
He said, “There are still so many people in Lagos that may be disenfranchised from the process. Lagos is not like other states. The population makes it different.
“The disappointment of most of the voters in obtaining the PVC may put them off and discourage them from participating in the 2015 polls.”
He urged the populace not to be deterred but to continue to visit INEC offices across the states for their cards.
In a related development, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Niger State, Mohammed Imam, on Saturday warned that failure of the INEC to provide PVCs to all the electorate in the ongoing distribution exercise might lead to disenfranchisement 70 per cent of them.
Imam, who raised the alarm at a press conference in Minna, said although the idea of PVC was to reduce rigging and achieve credible results in the forthcoming general elections, the inadequacy of PVC materials was creating suspicion and tension in the state.
According to him, “the exercise was designed to fail, to disenfranchise 70 per cent of Niger State people and to give way for massive rigging.
