IBB urges Nigerians to support President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan saturday visited former President Ibrahim Babangida in Minna in what the president said was to appreciate the former Nigerian leader and thank him after a recent medical trip abroad.

And former President Babangida who emerged from the closed door meeting with Jonathan urged all Nigerians who mean well for the country to support president Jonathan.

In an interview with journalists after the closed door meeting, President Jonathan said the meeting was to seek his input as former leader on how to solve the myriads of problems confronting the country.

He said: “First and foremost, I have to use this opportunity to appreciate our leader, President Babangida for his leadership. His commitment to ensuring that this country is united and we live in peace.

“Of course, you know that this is the end of the year. Within this period, people pay visits. So I have come to visit him. You know he just came back from a hospital abroad, not too long ago. Since he came back, we have not seen. I need to see my father to know how he is feeling. I am quite pleased the way I have seen him.

“Of course, you all know that as a nation, we are facing challenges: security challenges all over, not just in the North. Yes, Boko Haram in the North. The South is not safe: commercial kidnapping and robbery.

“He is one of our experienced leaders. As somebody who is sitting where he was before, I need to see them from time to time to listen to their suggestions. That is one of the areas how we can collectively move the country forward and ensure that Nigerians live in peace.

“That is the key thing and I am quite pleased that we had fruitful discussion” the president said.
Also speaking, the former head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida said the president means well for this country and every Nigerian who means well for the country should support him.

According to General Babangida, “what I will say is simple: The President means well for this country and he is working well for this country. Anybody who means well for this country should support the President to make sure that Nigeria survives as a united country”.

The President was accompanied on the trip, by among other, the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.); his Chief of Staff, Gen. Jones Arogbofa (rtd.); Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Muhammed; former Governor Peter Obi and Senator Ahmadu Ali among others.

    2. He said 'The president' with that preposition he is specific name. The president means the prsent or current president. We have one president at a time. We have never had two president at the same time.

and GEJ will surely need all the support he can get so that he doesn't end up in jail

  6. I really do think that a few of the guys commenting on this blog are just too obsessed with hate for GEJ. IBB has said support the president if you really do mean well for our dear country. Why bother your head over whether he said vote or whether he mentioned GEJ.. Like him or hate him, he remains the president for now. Vote him or not, yours is a single vote.
We as a people should be grateful to God for having a president who has allowed opposition to say and do their own things. During Obasanjo's tenure, not every politician liked his administration. Those who were opposed to him could not muster enough courage to speak out. Former army generals relied their excuses on the fact that they can not oppose their superior. But today, most of them have clustered in APC in opposition..having their say. I reserve more comments. The times will tell.
Those whose who were army generals can never be Democrats.

  7. A droning man will seek support for a straw. From a falling man like gov. Mimiko as your south west coordinator to the greatest dribbler. Bros Jona your time is off. You have already wasted 6 years we can't afford another 4 years.

  8. Nigerians do not hate Jonathan rather people are obssessed with his administration that has performed below average. Look at many of development indices by world bodies, they indicated that Nigeria has nosedive in downward trend.

    1. If you are Onyebuchi Orji as you claim, you should know that no other rgovt has ever carried out projects in Igboland than GEJ. Also no other govt has appointed Igbos in sensitive positions than this govt. In all no other govt has benefitted Ibos than the present govt. So where are you coming from? OBJ promised to award Onitsha bridge, at the end what happened, he ended up making caricature of Ibos at his last night of leaving office by announcing he had awarded whereas he did not. During OBJ Ibos and nigerians were often reminded how Ibos lost the war. He made comment stating that it was foolishness for an Ibo to seek to President of Nigeria, in less than 100 years after war. During Buhari the story was pathetic on how Buhari treated Ibos including business men. I will not like to go back the memory lane. I am only asking you reason and compare notes before supporting those who want you dead. Unless you belong to the prodigals like Rochas whose agenda was just to answer presidential aspirant knowing he would not get from APC againt making caricature of Ibos or Ngige or Onu. There is/are always outcasts in every society. These can be considered to ones. GEJ is the only President who has approved an airport to International Airport in Ibo land, appointed Ibo man Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff both at same time. These things are what is annoying the likes of OBJ, Buhari who only see Ibos as war defeated people. Who do not deserve to be appointed to such position. Babangida was far better because he only has appointed an Ibo man his military second in commander. He was first and only to appoint an Ibo petroleum minister since after the war. Brother, note those supporting buhari from west or north are doing so because he has chosen their own as the VP. You can recall how they attacked Buhari during OBJ and Yar'dua time becos they felt it would not favour their tribes then if they supported him. Ask yourself why the sudden love or choice of Buhari whom they did not want to see. They called him all sorts of bad names. Therefore some from west supporting him are doing so cos if Buhari succeeds, after his tenure another yoruba will become the president, meanwhile other major tribes have not. This is greed, tribalism, egocentricism and cheating to others who supported them to vote OBJ a yoruba to presidency. power must go round. Ibos are not in Nigeria to watch others rule them. Be wise, unless you are not an Ibo as you claim. This is a brotherly talk. Buhari never repented, he did it before and will do it again, but merciful God will not allow him.
Finally, tell me with facts, truths, records and figures any Nigerian President living or dead who achieved what GEJ has in six years?

  10. Question No 1: Why did IBB have to travel to an hospital abroad for medicals, haa the wages of sin is death
Q No 2: Is it IBB that Jonathan is referring to as "I need to see my FATHER to know how he's doing" Rotfl!
Q No 3: Why is the president looking for advise on how to tackle the nation's problems 6 years down the line? Does he know what he is doing? I really don't think so.
Looking for solution from people who obviously failed Nigerians is quite hilarious, don't u agree

  11. What we should be considering is the rule of law and human rights of every citizen, GEJ's administration has scored good marks on these two aspect of our society. Tell me which administration, people have been able to express their opinion without fear or favour of being dealt with if not that of GEJ?
Prior to Gej's administration, only the hausa/fulanis were involved in milking our resources but now, it has been decentralised, the likes of Asari, tompolo and so many of them are now billionaires. Let the wealth be distributed evenly first before u start talking about fighting corruption. Why didn't u northerners brake ur heads when the north were ruling and milking our resources off shore? Resources that does not belong to the north?
I don't blame u guys, I blame the British who merged different nations to form a country they can control.
