Enugu made history, Wednesday, as the only Nigerian city among 35 cities from across the globe invited to join the 100 Resilient Cities Network (100RC) pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation, New York.
The announcement was made during The Rockefeller Foundation's Urban Resilience Summit in Singapore. The other three African cities that made the list alongside the Coal City of Enugu are Kigali (Rwanda), Accra (Ghana) and Arusha (Tanzania).
The choice of Enugu was predicated on the transformation of the road network in the city under Sullivan Chime. This was in addition to numerous national and international recognitions that have been bestowed on Enugu state. The organizers of the network said that Enugu was chosen from nearly 350 applicants on the basis of its ability to "demonstrate a unique vision for resilience, a long-term commitment to cutting across levels of government and sectors of society, a special attention to the needs of the poor and vulnerable."
The Foundation stressed that Enugu like other Network cities will serve as a model for other global cities that seek to build their own resilience.
This second wave of cities will join 32 cities that won last year's 100 Resilient Cities Challenge, forming a growing network of urban centers around the world that are ready to respond to the social, economic and physical shocks and stresses that are a growing part of the 21st century.
Other renowned cities of the world invited to join the list in the 2014 edition include Athens, Barcelona, London, Paris, Boston, Chicago, Amman, Sydney and Singapore.
100-Resilient Cites was created by an initial $100 million commitment by the Rockefeller Foundation as part of their Centennial last year, recognizing the trends of urbanization and globalization that characterize this century.

This shows that the man that has been pioneering the affairs of Enugu State is a wonderful man. Sullivan Iheanacho Chime, you have made me proud. You are first among equals. You are really and trully a great man. An achiever who never makes noise. The only governor that does not ask anyone to come and commission his project. My dear Sulli Baba, You are too much. What others could not do you have done it. Carry go your Excellency. I pray that the Almighty God will grant you long life and more wisdom. Welldone a worthy son of Igbo Land. I know where ever your parents are now, they will be happy with you.
ReplyDeleteBut Sullivan's choice of Ifeanyi Ugwanyi as the 'next' governor of the state is terrible one.. Sullivan has not done better than Chimaroke in terms of development after all and he was Chimaroke's right hand man. Now, Sullivan has chosen a man like Ugwanyi to succeed him. Ugwuanyi for more than 10 years he has been in the house of representatives without anything whatever to show for it. Ugwanyi has been busy packing money he gave to the governor so that the governor will make him succeed the governor. It is sad. Ifeanyi hardly welcomes any one from his constituency in his office at the national assembly. He has no meaningful project he has prosecuted in his constituency as far as I know.He has never moved or even supported any motion in the floor the House of reps.. What he does is to share achohol and 500naira to some villagers in other to deceive them..Is this the sort of man we want to continue the development of Enugu? Sullivan has sinister motive in picking him. It is clear that Ifeanyi Ugwanyi is not the right man for the position.
ReplyDeleteI guess this piece is coming from a myopic, and self centred person. Sorry there can be no comparison between this present government and the former one. The difference is clean clear. How can you compare a gentle man to the core and a gangstar? Please be guided before we tell who is making this nonsence comment. However, Please support Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to be the next governor of Enugu State. Engu has Spoken.
DeleteLittle mind and rumour peddlers. So sorry for you. He is the right person for Enugu State. Sullivan Chime has done what others including Chi Boy cannot do. You are simply biased.
DeleteAssembly members make laws not projects. Is there any project money he looted?
ReplyDeleteMumu have you ever heard about constituency project?
DeleteAll these blockheads attacking Odoh for his comment have not addressed the issue that he raised about Sullivan and Ugwanyi. If Chimaoke's tenure was a reign of gangster,Sullivan was part of the reign and his right hand man for that matter. For Ugwanyi he has got nothing to recommend him for the position of Governor apart from the fact that he has been packing money and giving Sullivan for more than ten years in house of representatives for Sullivan to make him governor. It is a pity. We remember the sad story Mbadinuju and Uba brothers or Ngige in Anambra state. This is trying to play out in Enugu state with the unholy alliance or agreement between Sullivan and Ugwanyi. All those criticizing Odoh ate those ignorant never do well who dri,k themselves to death with cheap achohol and 200 and 500 naira Ugwanyi distributes to some villagers.Ugwanyi does not welcome anybody from his constituency in his office talk less of listening to what the person has to say. So Odoh is very right in all the issues he raised about Ugwanyi.. Have you seen or heard that he moved or supported any motion in the floor of the House for this long he has been there? For all you drinking cheap achohol and collecting200 naira that's all you wish for the state and your children a bi?
ReplyDeleteSullivan did not choose Ugwuanyi, Nsukka people did. He only insisted that it is the turn of Nsukka to produce the governor of the state and in his usual manner of live and let live, he called on Nsukka elders and elites to choose because he said he does not want to impose a candidate on them but will support their choice of candidate. thats why his close allies from the area lost in the governorship race. Haters should please leave him alone and stop trying to heap dirt on him.
