'Buhari’s emergence, a threat to PDP'

The Buhari 2015 Support Group Centre, has said the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government, is rattled by the emergence of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress.

The centre said this was the real reason behind recent attacks on the APC and its flag bearer, by the Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe.

Director, Publicity of the centre, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe said this in Abuja, on Thursday.

He explained that the Presidential aide and the ruling party were shocked that contrary to what they wished for the APC, the party had a rancour free party primaries which the PDP was incapable of holding.

The centre was reacting to statements credited to Okupe claiming that the APC made a fatal error by electing Buhari as its flag bearer.

Maduekwe said, “Nigerians are not blind like Jonathan’s men whom Okupe speaks for. Nigerians are simply saying the time for integrity and good governance has come.

“APC delegates saw expression of their idea for a new Nigeria made possible under GMB leadership and massively voted for his candidacy at the APC primaries.

“GMB from past records tackled both insurgency and foreign invasion of the sovereignty of Nigeria effectively.

“His training and acute sense of responsibility were in tune with tactics and strategy required at that time. Contrasting him with the current leadership that has admitted treating Boko Haram with kid’s glove then, the stack reality of clueless leadership will immediately pop up.”

He explained that the title of Commander-in-Chief, demands courage, patriotism and integrity, this he said, Buhari has in abundance.

Maduekwe said, a president must think ahead otherwise those around him are paid to do the thinking for the sake of the masses that they claim to represent.

He noted that the fact that Buhari chose to walk away from looting the treasury as a public office holder should be commended not a call for derision.

The Director pointed out that American presidents sometimes have been known to move back into their rented apartments after leaving office.

He further explained that as Chairman of PTF, GMB declined to receive the allotted allowances of his office on the grounds that he was on pension. This, he said, was the calibre of the leader Buhari is.

He advised the PDP-led administration to pay greater attention to dealing with its current self inflicted socio-economic challenges rather than dissipate energy talking about happenings within the APC.

  1. It is pertinent to ask the question: is PDP more caring about APC than the APC itself? if not, then why are they complaining about the emergence of GMB as the Presidential candidate of APC if not because they are already jittery and having cold feet on the outcome of 2015 election already? One does not take pain reliever to help cure another person headache. PDP should concentrate on their image and how they will bury their head in defeat in 2015.
