Buhari dares Jonathan: 'Show your achievements on the war against corruption '

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), have declared war on corruption.

They, therefore, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to showcase his achievements on the war against corruption in the face of allegations of a missing $20bn.

Buhari said this in a statement by the Director, Communications Buhari Campaign Organisations, Mr. Dele Alake, on Sunday.

He said, “In the spirit of the war against corruption, we demand the release of the audit report of the missing $20bn.

“Clearly unable to oppose us with an equally clean and unassailable ticket, we can understand why our opponents are running from pillar to post digging graves in search of rumours in the impossible hope of misinforming unsuspecting voters and spinning a web of blackmail and deceit.

“In this electoral contest of vision and moral stature, only the guilty needs to be afraid. Luckily, our lives are like the open book. We challenge our opponents to stake their desire to lead Nigeria again on what they have achieved with the billions of resources they received.”

Buhari said if voted into office, he would implement programme which would entail a zero-tolerance for corruption.

He said his life was an open book as he had nothing to hide.

The APC presidential candidate boasted that he and his running mate lived exemplary lives and had become reference points for how to live a morally upright life.

He said corruption was Nigeria’s biggest problem as it led to a myriad of problems especially poor living conditions for Nigerians.

He said, “Our vision is a new Nigeria in which corruption and abuse of office shall be sanctioned according to existing laws with the strengthening of the institutions of state; a Nigeria where the public and private sectors will collaborate to create zero tolerance for sharp practices in the running of government business.

“There is a clear linkage between the billions of naira lost to corruption and the poor living conditions of our people: it is the resources meant for the development of our people that are diverted to service the greed of a few

“It is indeed true that, by sheer force of personal examples, my running mate and I, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, have demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that it is possible to live above the greed that dominates the system.”

  2. Im with you my brother or sister, I am also a christian and will vote for Buhari Next year, Plus theres no way a democratically elected President can shut down one religion. I have had people say he will Islamise Nigeria. How exactly he will do that they cannot say. It is not possible in this day and age for a democratically elected president to put one religion over the other.

    1. You are a lair and an impersonator. No Muslim will refer to himself as "Moslem" (which is a western colonial pronunciation by Christians). You better be careful how you think you can deceive ignorant non- Muslims claiming what you aren't. You think everyone on NE are fools?

  10. Anonymous 2-5, dont mind those who have refused to see the plight of the poor old woman in the village who cries for a meal in a country which is 6th greatest producer of oil in the world. As long as corruption remains, Nigeria will Always move in reverse, if you like have 6 presidents from all zones.

I am a Christian but Binari is more human than all the greedy politicians we have and he deserves the chance. His records speak for him.

  11. Apart from the formation of BOKO HARAM and the closure of the NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA (NOUN) what did you achieve when you were in power? Ask yourself question before asking others. GOOD LUCK is what every body including myself needs. There is no going BACKWARD.

  12. wow, finally I have seen some civilized minds that see beyond ethno religious sentiments. how can an elected executive shot down one religion in this modern world? don't we have the legislature and the judiciary? these propagandists of GEJ should look for another propaganda cos this one is not working. I am an Igbo man but I am disillusioned by how this country is being run. I believed in the integrity and sincerity of GMB/Osinbajo. We really need a change so that any ruling party will know that it is no longer business as usual. We can also vote out APC in 2019 if we are not satisfied with their performance. That way, politicians will know that power belongs to the people. I can't vote for ethnicity or religion. I will vote for a corruption free and sincere govt. This present govt has betrayed the trust we reposed in them and therefore failed the nation. Let's try another alternative for now. ( Chima Onyebuchi)

  13. You so called Christian talking this way must be leaving in the southern Nigeria come to the North and see what Buhari boys had done and are still doing to fellows Nigerians here. Jonathan may not have lived up to our expectations but Buhari is not a substitute. Be wise! Be guided!

  14. APC and Buhari in particular should begin to tell us the good things that Buhari had done in the past. As a corollary, they should also tell us in their campaigns what PDP did not do. As for me, I know that as the chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), Buhari tarred all the roads in Itoko and other adjoining towns in Abeokuta South Local Government Area. A lot of people were around when GMB was chairman of PTF, so I expect them to begin to propagate those things that they know. APC should also make it a campaign issue that Buhari is not a religious bigot. He has so many christians working with him. Let's make it issues based campaign.

  15. They use this same old trick of GMB Islamizing Nigeria to fool the gullible ones thinking they will gather Christian sympathy for GEJ but they have failed as "the wind has blown and we can now see clearly the hen's back side". They all know the man is clean as they can not find any other thing to castigate him (If not they would have dumped the Religious toga and moved on to another excuse). However one thing that even they can not deny is that the man is an incorruptible man with integrity hence they will still use religion to trick very few Christians even with overwhelming evidence that GMB has never discriminated against any individual based on their faith. Unfortunately the major people still irrational about GMB are the few minority Igbos who feels that this election is another Biafran war extension needing to be concluded once and for all.

  16. @Anonymous 9:24 AM, Your claim of being a "moslem" is laughable and you've shown yourself up already. LOL. because if you truly were a muslim, you would have known that muslims spell muslims as MUSLIM, only non-muslims spell it as "moslem". but that is by the way, the crux of the matter is that the effect of bad governance is no respecter of religion. We need good governance desperately like we need oxygen.

    1. Thank you Taofeek, I have already responded to the impersonator who doesn't know that he is only deceiving himself. He must be an Igbo Christian...as they are the ones who usually use the wrong spellings when addressing Muslims as "Moslem".

  19. OBJ introduced EFCC and Ribadu did a good job. What has GEJ done to EFCC in fighting corruption?

GEJ pardoned his corrupt friends - e.g. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. What about James Ibori, Joshua Dariye, Lucky Igbinedion, etc. According to Doyin Okukpe, GEJ Adviser, "There's no law against the granting of pardons to any criminal".

The issues speak for themselves. GEJ has failed woefully.

  20. Am using this forum to beg all Nigeria young or old, Christian or Muslim, Yoruba, lgbo,Hausa or SS, SW, SE, just any tribe you belong to let's give GMB a chance to clean up our corrupt leaders, we all know for fact that one of our major problem is corruption and is obvious to us all that GEJ can't stop it but rather he encourage it. Guys remember we all support Jonathan in last election. ANC voted him in now let's try something else and if GMB fail us is just a matter of 4 years then we will flush them out and put in new people. Period.

  21. GMB can not clean up anything, he will think it's military rule I pray he wins and come back to Aso Rock to pick what ever he forgot there, but I dnt see any change, who is APC? Angry theifs that left PDP, for Buhari mind he is our messaiah but you guys are in for another disappointment.
