While Buhari's votes are still being counted, Atiku Abubakar, one of the contestants tweeted a congratulatory message to Buhari.
Congratulations General Buhari. The delegates have spoken, you fully deserve the victory - Atiku tweeted
As at the time Atiku tweeted this, Buhari votes were still being counted. although the vote count now totalled 3,430 votes out of a possible 7,214 votes.
Atiku himself could only gather 954 votes.
Atiku, in a concession statement by his media office in Lagos on Thursday, said that Buhari ran a spirited campaign, and that since the delegates have spoken, he fully deserves the victory.
The statement reads, “I am very confident that you will provide the needed leadership to turn this country around.
“I have no doubt that you will work with dedicated and qualified Nigerians to protect our citizens, improve our economy, create jobs, improve education, reform governance and fight corruption.
“You will indeed bring the change Nigerians have been yearning for once more, congratulations.
“I congratulate the other contestants, namely Governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Rochas Okorocha as well as the erudite Sam Nda-Isaiah. You have all demonstrated your commitment to democracy by participating in this transparent process and by campaigning vigorously across this country.”
He thanked delegates for their sacrifices and their commitment to democracy.
In particular, he said he thanked those who voted for him for their faith in him.
He called on his supporters to support Buhari.
He said, “However, since we came up short, we have to now rally behind Buhari to help him prevail in the coming Presidential election.
“The APC has demonstrated, through the transparent process, the party’s commitment to democracy and rule of law. It has demonstrated its respect for people and their choice through the ballot box.
“I sincerely thank the Convention Committee for putting together a hitch-free convention.
“My dear friends, we have voted, a winner has emerged. I pledge my commitment to this Party, and to campaign vigorously for our candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and all APC candidates to ensure victory in the 2015 elections.
“I call on all other contestants and our party’s rank and file to unite behind our candidates at all levels to ensure that the PDP is defeated, so Nigerians can have real change.”
Atiku said he will hand over to Buhari his review and possible implementation of his policy document which he said was developed in line with the party’s philosophy.
Very magnanimous of Atiku to concede defeat and congratulate Gen Buhari already.

ReplyDeleteOne thing that nobody can take away from this man is that he seems to knows how to be professional in the Political realm. It’s very Impressive that apart from being a very good business man with an impressive portfolio ranging from real estate, to the agricultural industry, to the beverage industry as well, Former VP Atiku, knows how to be an amiable Politician, with a good sense of humour. Sending out that tweet to Retd. Major General Buhari, was an ‘honorable’ thing to do. Very Professional. Anway, going back to Pluto now. Just came in to see how the politicians on earth are doing. ReplyDeleteAll in d dying spirit ,his tru colour will soon manifest.
ReplyDeleteThere are powerful messages in the fact that Atiku lost - not even coming second, but third in the race. He spent far more than any other candidate to win this primary. But he lost woefully as even Kwakwanso beat him. First, it shows that Nigerians are becoming less impressed with moneybags. They'll take your money and may even hail you, but when it comes to voting, many vote for their conscience. The second point is that, while Atiku is indeed a gentleman, Nigerians are not fooled by the source of his wealth. He was a Customs Officer, and we know what that connotes. He made matters worse when in his book he claimed that he as a 15-year-old got a bank loan to build a house for his mother! I don't know who believed that story, but I don't think it helped him much.
ReplyDeleteBuhari is the man, God bless Atiku, let us join hands and salvage this country from the hand of hoodlums that are PDP , Patience and Jonathan
